I was pickpocketed by two men wearing red hats and gray bun hats.
The thieves stole a wad of bills from my pocket and ran away. They lined up like everyone else in Demel, pretending to enjoy the cafe like everyone else, then moved to the table behind me, searched my pockets, took my money, and ran away. When they moved in and sat down behind me, I wasn't suspicious because I thought they were new customers. I didn't know they were going to search my pockets. I am usually a very sensitive person when it comes to managing my belongings. But I had no idea.
As they were running away, a righteous young man sitting at another table saw them and stopped them. But the thieves escaped and ran away. The staff helped me report it to the police. I apologized for the unpleasant incident that occurred in Demel. It also allowed them to retrieve the thief's face from a photo album of several people in the same room and submit it to the police. I hope there will never be a shoplifter in Demel again.
I am a very agile person and I have never seen a pickpocket in my life. Be careful with your valuables, as there are poor thieves not only on the streets but also in high-end cafes and restaurants like Demel.
And thank you to Tommy Sweater for seeing the injustice and coming forward. I'm sorry I didn't realize it was happening to me at the time and couldn't work with you. Thank you so much for putting your body on the line even though it was a dangerous situation. At that time, I couldn't properly express my gratitude. I don't know if you'll see this post, but I hope that only good things always happen to you.
And you poor thieves. I hope you never show up at Demel again because the staff knows all about how you look. I hope you can live your life doing something you are not ashamed of in other...
Read moreWe went to Demel Pastry Shop a famous pastry shop and chocolaterie established in 1786 in Vienna, Austria. We didn't have reservations so we had to line up but we did not have to wait too long to get seated. Unfortunately it was on the second floor and since some of us have mobility issues, climbing up the stairs was difficult but we managed somehow. The scent of goods being baked emanating from the store was enough to tempt customers to go in and one also gets to watch bakers cooking the famous Kaiserschmarrn through the display window. We had Kaiserschmarrn with stewed plums which was absolutely delightful. It was freshly made and served warm. It reminds me of rice cake my father used to bring home for midnight snack, so melt in your mouth delicious. The Kaiserschmarrn - a scrambled sweet pancake with raisins is truly the best. The Apple strudel with whipped cream we ordered was alright. The pastry dough with apple fillings was soft and soggy not crispy and crunchy which is how I like it. I liked that it wasn't so sweet though. We also had the Demel's sachertorte or the iconic chocolate cake. I find that the cake was dry and not moist enough. I had house coffee with whipped cream and they were served separately. I love the whipped cream so fresh and not so sweet. My friends had Demel's hot chocolate with whipped cream and small espresso with milk, Capuccino ,Cafe Latte. Viennesse coffee is really good. They served water with your order, no need to ask. Once done eating and one gets the bill, you are advised that you pay it on your way out where the bakery shop is. We bought croissant and vanilla bun to go and they were really good. It is worth going back if only to have their famous...
Read moreFor anyone considering a visit, be prepared for a big disappointing experience!
I had high hopes when visiting this renowned café in Vienna, known for its rich history and popularity. Of course you have some expectations for a place with a long line all the time. However, my visit to this famous place was a let down. Despite the beautiful and elegant interior, the long queue, expensive prices, and mediocre food left me feeling disappointed and underwhelmed.
While the smell of buttery goodness filled the air in the whole building, the actual taste of the dishes, including the famous shredded pancake ”Kaiserschmarrn” and Sacher cake, did not live up to the anticipation. So don’t let the good smell fool you. The only delicious thing was their hot chocolate. You should go elsewhere if you want good dessert.
Additionally, the rushed service made it seem like they wanted to seat and serve customers as quickly as possible. I still had some pancakes on the plate when they tried to take it away and proceed to paying, although we had been there for only a moment. The waitors seemed stressed and in a constant hurry, they did not have time to give customers the attention they should get in a fancy place like Demel.
Also, the waiter was overly focused on us leaving a tip, making the payment process uncomfortable as we felt pressured to add more tip than we wanted. You should let the customer pay in peace and basic manners is to look away when someone pays by card.
The only redeeming aspect was the stunning interior of the building and the cute candy shop in the first floor. But beautiful space is not enough to cover for all the other aspects...
