Read moreThis extensive complex offers several photographic opportunites on the outside and many more attractions inside. There is no combination ticket to visit all museums within the Hofburg, and the inside attractions are/may be clubbed in the ticket as:
Silver Collection, Sisi Museum, Imperial Apartments - these are the primary museums to visit in the Hofburg Palace. The €10,50 entrance fee buys admission with audio guide to these three collections. It seems the tour goes along this route only (i.e, one-way) and it will take about 2-3 hours using the audio guide. It's a good interesting tour; there is much to see in the Silver Collection, but found the tours through the Sisi Museum and the Imperial Apartments more interesting with a more personal touch to them.
Treasury (€12) + Neue Burg (€12) [+ Kunsthistorisches Museum (€12), outside and just opposite the Hofburg on the Ringstrasse side] = €18 for combination ticket Kunsthistorisches museum is a top museum to visit in Vienna, and an additional €6 to at least see the Imperial jewels is very good value!
Imperial Library Albertina Spanish Riding School
St Augustin Church - free Where Imperial weddings took place, and has Canova's Tomb of Maria Cristina. This is a great parish church to visit on Sundays before or during high mass for sacred music.
Outside attractions: Michaeler Gate and Roman ruins Swiss Gate - black and red marble gate, within the complex Josefsplatz - with statue and monument of Emperor Josef II on a horse Heroes Square - Heldenplatz, with statues of Prince Eugen of Savoy and Archduke Charles
It will be overwhelming to see and do everything in a day in The Hofburg complex. It would be better to at least allot 2 days for a visit, breaking up #1 and #2 and pairing each with a visit to the church, enjoying the outside grounds, or #3, #4 or #5, depending on interest. Some might prefer to do the Albertina a 3rd day so as not to get "museumed out."
However which way one visits, the Hofburg Palace is a top attraction in Vienna and should...
