During my recent visit to Vienna, I had the pleasure of dining at Lugeck Restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. As someone who enjoys immersing myself in local cuisine, I made sure to sample an array of Viennese classics, and each dish surpassed my expectations. The Wiener Schnitzel made of veal was a standout—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The Viennese-style minced veal and the glazed veal liver were equally remarkable, bursting with rich, authentic flavors. For sides, I opted for roasted vegetables and a creamy cucumber salad, both of which complemented the main dishes perfectly. What made my dining experience even more memorable was the exceptional service. The server, noticing my generous order, humorously suggested I might want to pace myself. He quickly deduced I was from the US based on my enthusiastic ordering style! Despite my lean physique, I finished every bite, much to his surprise. Our conversation added an unexpected layer of enjoyment to the meal. As an electrical engineer working in space systems in the USA, I was delighted to find the server well-versed in topics related to space exploration, NASA, and SpaceX projects. It was refreshing and impressive to engage in such an informed discussion, especially considering the misconceptions about space that are surprisingly common in the US. The ambiance of Lugeck is another highlight. We opted for outdoor seating, which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful weather and vibrant atmosphere of Vienna. It was the perfect setting for a leisurely meal. The wine selection was excellent as well, perfectly complementing the exquisite food. In summary, Lugeck Restaurant is a fantastic place to experience the best of Viennese cuisine. The food, service, and ambiance come together to create a truly exceptional dining experience. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Vienna.

First and foremost, I’ve been living and going to a lot of restaurants by now in Vienna and I gotta say, one of the best services I have experienced! They didn’t ask us too often if everything is okay nor did they ignore us, just the perfect grade of attention they gave us! They told us for certain dishes that it would take longer if we want it served together and I gotta say, again, excellent service. The atmosphere as well, you felt comfortable immediately and you don’t have to speak like you’re in a library. the service and the atmosphere is the reason why it’s at 4 stars and not at 3. The food, quite frankly, was disappointing. From the steak sandwich to the burger and schnitzel, all of them had one thing in common, SALT AND PEPPER WAS MISSING! The meat was always extremely bland. Of course you could taste the quality of the meat but that makes it even more disappointing AND frustrating because it felt like a waste of a quality product! We all (group of 3) shared the very same opinion about that. and the schnitzel was soo MOIST on its bottom… (the waiter did ask us why didn’t we just tell him he would’ve switched it but we just don’t want food to be wasted, would be unfair to them if that wasn’t mentioned here) Would I go again tho? Most definitely. Why? Because the service and atmosphere was amazing and I’m hoping the kitchen just had a bad day.

Our experience at Lugeck was truly a rollercoaster ride! While it was nice of them to accept us without a reservation, they refused to seat us upstairs, claiming it was “not available.” Funny enough, I later noticed there were actually free tables! Instead, we were seated right next to the kitchen in what felt like a concert hall of clinking cutlery and kitchen noise—quite the symphony! The ordering process was a masterpiece of its own: We asked for the wine and sourdough bread to arrive first, but instead, everything landed on the table at the same time. With such a tiny table, we ended up playing Tetris with the plates. We ordered the truffle schnitzel and the classic schnitzel, both of which were tasty, though the €13 price difference for the truffle schnitzel seemed a bit excessive. The classic schnitzel was slightly too oily; the crust had soaked up so much oil that it felt heavy. That said, it was hot and flavorful, so credit where it’s due. Still, if I’m being honest, Figlmüller does it better! As for the staff, they mastered the art of disappearing acts. Trying to ask for anything felt like trying to move mountains. For dessert, we had the “cream cheese strudel,” which looked and tasted like dough floating in vanilla soup. Unless you’re madly in love with vanilla, I’d highly recommend skipping it. It was supposed to be “the best in the city,” but sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype. Now, about the water situation: If you order alcohol, they bring you a glass of tap water as a complimentary gesture. Is it really that hard to offer a proper jug of water? Finally, our ghost-like waiter miraculously came alive when it was time to pay, smiling and making small talk. Throughout the meal, he was more like Casper, popping in and out. All in all, while parts of the food were enjoyable, the overall atmosphere, service, and value for money left us disappointed.

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. I had one of the specials - fillet of char, and I found it really tasty. The food was brought really fast and at first, the service was amazing. I would have given five stars if it wasn’t for the service afterwards. We asked for the bill and it wasn’t delivered. Then, we asked another waitress and she brought us the bill but didn’t wait for us to pay, just left to clean tables and didn’t look at us for the next few minutes. She was cleaning tables, getting orders, letting people to the table next to us and WAS CONTINUING TO IGNORE US. At the end, I waved my hand and she looked at us annoyed. She came and didn’t ask how we are going to pay, just put the whole amount to pay with card. Her excuse for not coming earlier was that “we were sitting for so long and didn’t ask for the bill, so it’s on us”. We were waiting for the bill for more than 20 minutes and were getting late for our next reservation. I asked if we can pay separately and she said we should have asked in advance. No, she should have asked us in advance. The whole ordeal made the experience less enjoyable.

Lugeck is a fantastic classic Austrian restaurant that is absolutely worth your time. Whenever we visit a new country, we always want to try the local cuisine first, and as one of us is gluten-free, sometimes it is a bit of a struggle. Not here - they even have gluten-free wienerschnitzel here! Can you believe it?! And it’s even better than most regular wienerschnitzel!! We came very late and despite that we’re given excellent service, food came out very quickly, and it was all very good. We got the organic Herr Frischend sodas as our drinks, and they great - definitely would recommend if you’re not wanting something alcoholic. As for our meals, we had the gluten-free wienerschnitzel and the Viennese-style boiled beef in a pot…it doesn’t sound very impressive, but it actually was very good. It’s a fun and unique dish - you first pour the broth on top of the meat/vegetables in your bowl, have it as a soup first, then eat the big slabs of beef at the end! It was very filling! All in all, awesome restaurant, and we will definitely be coming back next time we are in Vienna!

A Modern Twist on a Viennese Classic Schnitzel I recently visited Lugeck with four friends on August 21 at 9:15 PM, after finding long queues at the original Figlmüller locations on Backerstrasse and Wollzeile. Lugeck was a perfect alternative, offering a later closing time and a more modern and chic ambiance compared to the older Figlmüller restaurants. There was still a queue though. The interior of Lugeck is stylish and contemporary, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Despite the updated decor, the taste of the schnitzel is as authentic and delicious as you would expect from any Figlmüller establishment. I was particularly impressed by their schnitzel with truffle (2g), priced at 43 euros—a delightful indulgence that adds a touch of luxury to the traditional dish. Overall, Lugeck provided a fantastic dining experience that, in my opinion, surpasses the older Figlmüller locations. If you’re looking for the same great taste with a more modern vibe, I highly recommend giving Lugeck a try. You won’t be disappointed!
