DAST Restaurant — Restaurant in Vienna

We celebrated my wife's birthday here on December 10. We've never eaten here before but I chose it because of the very high ratings and the good location near where we were staying. I would say it was a really good decision. Stephanie answered my questions prior to reservation and agreed to bake a special birthday cake for my wife. Once we were there, the place was soothing, homey, and peaceful, and it felt like we found a hidden secret in Vienna. We ordered 10 Austrian tapas in total. They were all good, but I would say the best were the 2 specials they offered (deep fried roast beef and tender pork fillet). They're currently not included in the regular menu but I think they should include it in the regular menu! :) The meal was really excellent.

The chocolate cake that they baked for my wife was made with a lot of thoughtfulness and love for creation. It was a deluxe chocolate cake with a rich chocolate core, touches of fruit filling and an assortment of toppings. My wife said that it was the best chocolate cake she's had in her life! This is really a big compliment to their chef Daniel who is not only an excellent chef but baker as well.

One thing you should know (and I think this is the problem with some negative reviews here) is that this is not fast food or fast service. You have to enjoy and savor each tapa like stages in a multi-course meal. You shouldn't rush and it's better if you have a good conversation while eating.

Delicious food and beautiful dishes with excellent wine pairing. We always take our visitors there to discover Austrian wines and experience a very refined version of Austrian cuisine. We have been to this restaurant (and its previous version) for over four years now and have never been disappointed. Unser Besuch im DAST war zweifellos das Highlight unserer Reise!

Obwohl wir an zahlreichen hochgelobten Touristen-Hotspots gegessen haben (selbst Schuld), haben wir nirgendwo besser gegessen als hier. Die einzigartige Kombination aus Tapas und Wiener Spezialitäten ist genial und hat unsere Geschmacksknospen verzaubert.

Jeder Bissen war ein Genuss, und das Ambiente sowie der hervorragende Service haben den Abend perfekt abgerundet. Wir waren begeistert von der Kreativität und Qualität der Gerichte, die uns mit jedem Gang aufs Neue überrascht haben.

Zu den wenigen negativen Rezensionen über die Gastgeberin können wir sagen, dass sie im ersten Moment vielleicht etwas eigen erscheinen mag. Doch man merkt schnell, dass dies einfach ihre Art ist – eine typische Wiener Eigenheit, würden wir sagen, die sie liebenswert macht. Im Laufe des Abends und mit jedem weiteren Gang wurde sie – und das DAST – uns immer sympathischer.

Eine Schande nur, dass es keinen Kaiserschmarrn gab ;-)
