We were skeptical at first. The chef used to work in Steirereck but decided to open his own restaurant and bring gourmet food to the people.
We have accepted our waiter's offer of 4-gang menu for a very reasonable price (what was called in one of the comments here - the surprise menu from the chef), and accompanied it with two glasses of wines - white & red - according to his recommendations.
The first dish looked splendid, It was pieces of roasted meat with fish-mouse, the presentation was marvelous and the taste followed accordingly. The combination with the pickled horse-radish (kren) was precise, and the parsley powder on top gave the dish the final touch.
Next was octopus - Truffle - soup which, in my opinion, was the best dish in the meal. The flavors mixed in the most perfect way one may imagine, including the harsh truffle, which many times is only being added to a dish just to mark it as an expensive/high-quality dish. This time the mixture of the Truffle was exactly as it should be, and gave the dish the special taste. The octopus pieces were soft and tender, as you could easily cut it with your spoon. Absolutely excellent.
The main dish was duck breast (Ente), accompanied with puree made of mustard & potatoes, steamed vegetables and a pie-like piece with grilled cheese on top. The duck was again tender and delicious, and the combination with the special puree was simple heavenly.
The desert we got was creme-brulee accompanied with a sorbet and forest-fruits.
Overall, the dinner was absolutely delicious, and the prices were beyond reasonable. I have no doubt, we are going to be eating there as often as possible.

Read moreWe found this by looking at google maps, so we no preconceptions, and we were looking for something close to our hotel. This was like finding a gem on a walk. From when we arrived and were warmly welcomed by the host we felt looked after and served with food that was absolutely wonderful. The menu is small, but even so choosing was difficult. There is a wide selection of wines, many available by the glass. The atmosphere was relaxing, the service was attentive and our host was friendly and made us feel welcome and explained the Viennese dishes that we were unfamiliar with. Highly...
Read moreFood looks better than it tastes. Expensive but neither food nor service is in line with the price. Starters were fine but the main courses weren't that great. Kalbsgoulash had a sour taste. Grammelknödel were 10€ a piece but cold inside when served. We found it hard to get the servers attention when we wanted the menu or refills for our drinks while he was chatting at length with other guests. The experience made us feel unwanted and out of place. Wanted to try this because it's close but we won't be...
