Empanaditas Wien — Restaurant in Vienna

There’s something so heartwarming about a good mom-and-pop store, like this one. Vienna could certainly use more Latin American cuisine; after all, the community is here, and selfishly, I’d rather indulge locally than book a flight! I went all in with two empanadas (Venezuelan, perhaps?), three tacos, and churros (my absolute favorite!). The tacos stole the show, big, juicy, and absolutely delicious. The empanadas were solid, though they couldn’t quite outshine the tacos. As for the churros, they were good, but I could definitely guide you to an even better spot. Naja. Das Lokal steht schon länger auf meiner Liste und heute hat es sich ergeben dort vorbeizuschauen. Von außen fällt das Lokal auf, nach dem Betreten kommt man aber erstmal ins Stocken. Ein Tisch, auf dem ein Hefter mit den Gerichten liegt und eine Türe mit Glasfenster und Einblick in die Küche. Essen gibt es hier nur zum mitnehmen. Kurze Zeit später kam auch schon eine sehr freundliche Frau und nahm meine Bestellung auf: Die gemischten Empanadas. 5-6 Minuten später bekam ich diese auch schon. Als Dip gab es meines Erachtens eine Salsa dazu. Die Füllung war je 2x Huhn, Rind und Käse. Gekostet hat mich das Ganze 10€. Die Salsa war sehr tomatenlastig, sonst hatte diese wenig Geschmack. Der erste Bissen in die Empanada war überraschend, der Teig schmeckte anders, als ich erwartet hatte aber ganz gut. Die Füllung bestand aus Mais und Käse, genauso hat es auch geschmeckt. Weder habe ich Kreuzkümmel noch sonst irgendein Gewürz geschmeckt. Die Hühnerfülle hat nach gekochtem, gehacktem Huhn mit etwas Salz geschmeckt, wieder keine Gewürze. Und zu guter Letzt das Rind: Bis zum Schluss zieht sich die Abwesenheit von Gewürzen, so fehlt auch hier, meiner Meinung nach, etwas um den ganzen etwas Pepp zu verleihen. Alles in allem habe ich mir Kreuzkümmel, etwas Säure von Limetten (z.B. in der Salsa), einfach eine Geschmacksexplosion im Mund erhofft. Erinnert hat mich das ganze dann doch eher an diverse fertige Snacks ausm Tiefkühlregal, welche man für ein paar Minuten in die Fritteuse wirft. Es war nicht schlecht, aber auch nicht "Wow". Amazing food and lovely staff! The empanadas and churros are delicious, very fresh, crunchy and tasty, and the (I believe homemade) salsa sauce is to die for! 😀 I'm looking forwars to trying the remaining dishes from the menu as well.
