The food is lovely and the prices are fair. I think this is a great restaurant and out of the 9 or 10 times I was there, I had a splendid time. Most of the staff is very friendly, but every once in a while, I get a weird experience.
A few years ago, I wanted to trade in two sparkling wine coupons that I have from a hotel. I was told that they do not have soda/mineral water at the moment (???) and that that is why they can not serve it. When I reassured them that a non-sparkling wine would be fine, I was told that the coupons are being counted and that they could not give me something else (???). This was rather confusing.
At a more recent visit, we were enjoying our drinks after we ate a very good pizza and we did not feel like moving. There were no other guests around, and we already ordered both food and drinks. Considering this, I thought that we had every right to stay there for a total of 60 minutes. During this time, one member of the staff kept on checking us out. Now, I could understand this being an attempt at being friendly, but I did not feel that way - instead, I felt like they were trying to find out when we would leave. After taking a look once and asking once whether we need anything, I think that there is no need to keep on "spying" on the guests, but this might be my feeling.
And again, I think this is a great restaurant! I just find it sad that from time to time the service plummets and I think that it has to do with staff members. Over the years I saw 5 or 6 members of the staff, and I think only 2 of them left a bad impression on me.
As a receptionist, I gladly recommend this restaurant to the guests of the hotel where I work and again, every single time, the guests say the restaurant was great. I can not explain the negative experience people have occasionally. I assume there are 2 or 3 workers that do not care about customers, and when they work together from time to time, it seems people get a bad experience.
While I do not agree completely with the US principle of "the customer is always right", I think that this kind of mentality should still be the motto of any...
Read moreI was disappointed once before by this restaurant and wanted to give it a second chance. But still the service is terrible. We ordered a pizza and after 20 minutes of waiting and seeing that everyone in the joint got what they have ordered before us. I really don't think that making a pizza takes 20 minutes. They also have stuff on the menu they have never heard of and when you happen to order you get a puzzled look and a quick "we don't serve that". The soup that was supposed to be a minestrone was everything but that... So to sum it up - the food is not good, the service is horrible and you are better off going some place else. Wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't...
Read moreThe restaurant carries scrumptious pizzas at very reasonable prices. One can order foodstuffs made in a genuine italian fashion (mostly, as in about 70% accurate in its representation of the cuisine) at a fraction of what said foodstuffs would cost in the center of Vienna (and I have verified this during my time sightseeing). The owner is courteous, chatty, funny, and (take this in any way you will) proactively pedagogical about wine. The only downside: wait times might vary as patrons ebb and flow in and out of the place. Anyhow, the Gondola is definitely worth a visit, and then a return visit; and then several more...
