We went to the restaurant because it looked nice from the outside. The experience wasn't exactly what we expected.
This is a restaurant where you pay for much more than just the food. As the owners mentioned in one of the preview comments, you pay for handmade plates, hand-blown wine glasses (which you have to pay for if you break them), silver cutlery, a huge wine collection etc. This is NOT your average restaurant.
It may be a cultural thing, but as Finns, we are not fans of hidden costs. We don't mind paying for random things, but we'd rather know about them in advance so that we can choose whether the place is for us or not. Apparently the restaurant has its own concept, but how could we have known as no one explained it to us.
The evening started with a water. Austria has high quality, good tasting, perfectly drinkable tap water, but instead, we got some sort of “healing water” that cost 8,90 €. Then we had to choose between two sparkling wines. The one we chose, cost 12 € a glass. Of course, we only knew this when we got our bill. When we got the menu, our order was already 32,90 €.
When we got the menu, we also learned that the restaurant's concept includes the obligatory bread and tasting plate. Yes, you have to pay for it, but you learn that only after the healing water and the expensive sparkling wines.
We finally managed to order the food. We also tried to order the wine, but the waitress walked away and said that the other waitress would take care of it. Fair enough.
What is not fair is that the owner has a collection of 1800 wines, but lists the 20 most expensive ones on the menu. 12 cl glasses literally cost more than the typical expensive bottles of wine in Finland - and alcohol is expensive in Finland!
The starters were okay at best, but definitely not worth the cost. The main courses were much better, but for this kind of price I'd expect a bit more in terms of portion size and flavour.
In the end, we can't really say that this is a bad restaurant. The food was okay and the staff were friendly, but they really should make sure their customers understand their “concept”. For someone expecting to have a normal dinner and fill their belly, this is definitely not the place. It is crazy expensive and you realise it after it is too late.
The idea of using local ingredients, handmade items and serving craft wines is great, but the execution lacks transparency, resulting in a negative customer experience.
The restaurant looked nice and cosy, but the atmosphere felt a bit stiff. Almost as if everyone was confused or surprised about the “concept”. Also, the metal chairs with no back rest were very...
Read moreUpdate- the owner immediately called me back after the review asking to make it right, which was nice. Again, the service and care was and is impeccable, which is why I gave them another star as that should count for a lot these days.
I really wanted to like this place as the decorations are whimsical, stylish and well done. The restaurant is very clean and the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. They have an incredible winelist. Here comes the but for me. The food was just not good. The bread, dips and butter were incredible. They do an amuse bouch, which was a doughnut with sauerkraut. Didn't work for me but still alright. The vegetarian soup had absolutely no flavor, my daughters schnitzel tasted very off (maybe super old frying oil?), the fries had no salt, my fish was an odd heavy cream side, which just didn't taste good and the osso bucco was very vinegary. Again, great decor and service but the chef had a...
Read moreThet food is fine however they try to hard to be fancy that they are not. We had to move table because 12 very drunk and noisy women arrived, the owners/waiters did not care - it seems like money is more important than the costumers experience. The women was banging in the table and shouting/singing. A lot of guest seemed irritated but no reactions from the owners. We ordered the five meals surprise menu with wine pairing - however the waiter couldn’t speak English and seemed like he did not care about telling us what we was eating. In total it took 3,5 hours to get through 5 meals, the waiters was very slow and confused. Two times we ordered water but did not get any. The serving was so late that sometimes we finished the wine before getting the food. In general they seem to be more focused on earning money from serving drunk girls than severing good food in a reasonable time. The total price for the evening...
