Big stir fry Cantonese menu with dim sum options at dinner time was a draw to this place.
The setting, decor and service is definitely nostalgic. Also, a couple of dishes here transports me back in time to revisit or experience an older style of cooking, tastes and service.
Very expensive nostalgia trip overall for 2 warm dishes and a couple of dim sums.
🔸️ Yang Chow Fried Rice (扬州炒饭) 😀😀😀 Some wok hei. Tasty with a good amount of ingredients. The char siew is authentic.
🔸️Sliced Fish in Sweet and Sour Sauce (酸甜鱼片) 😀 Has the looks. Batter and fish did not go well. Too soggy and sauce lacks the signature robust sweet / sour taste.
🔸️ Dim Sum (点心) 😀😀 Fried carrot cake was oily, salty but tasty.
Would skip the chicken feet as it was not well marinated, not steamed adequately and was hard.
The fried tofu skin roll is a tough disappointment. Overfried, hard and ingredients didn't taste much.
🔸️ Steamed white rice (白饭) 😀 Bland, oversteamed and left sitting too long, dry to the taste.
🔸️ Jasmine Tea 😀 Light jasmine fragrance but not so good...
Read moreNothing special with the food. It wasn't bad but it wasn't something special. But that's subjective. What is not that subjective is the quality of service which in my opinion was terrible.
We were a group of 10 people not Chinese. The stuff spoke next to zero English and even their dutch was very hard. When they brought the orders, they didn't explain well what it is. It is not enough to say noodles when there are 3 different orders of noodles. Finally, the bill came with a lot of mistakes. Intake we thought that they had charged items we didn't order but what they did was to add a mistake and then add a negative entry. So confusing.
And although it was pre agreed that we could pay separately they started the usual that is not possible despite the fact that the law requires to accept individual payments. I understand the issue with the commissions but this is an issue between the merchant and the bank and not an issue for the customers. Like every other cost, include it as an average in...
Read moreReally good dim sum restaurant. I visited during new year celebrations, without reservation and was able to get a table for 2.
The food is wonderful, the staff were a bit preoccupied with their larger tables and other business, so it was hard to communicate, and as a non-Dutch-speaking citizen, the little Cantonese I speak was our only common language, so that may have been my fault.
Ha gau, siu mai, cha siew, steamed ribs and choi sum with oyster sauce was plenty for 2 people. The ‘little plate’ or cha siu was a lot more than I expected for the price.
Edit: returned here with my partner and a large group. Service was really bad - the waiter was sarcastic, rude and they were complaining behind the counter. My partner spoke to them in Cantonese and even she felt wildly uncomfortable. We also ordered a dish that didn’t arrive until we asked again after 30m. Such a shame - the food is great but we probably...
