I had never had such a horrible experience at restaurant for a long, long time. I am writing this review to pre-warn you if you are interested in going.

First of all, the female waiter ordered us not to sit together but sit to across without a single smile.. it was not pleasant because the old couple next to us did sit together with a dog in between (yes, somehow this restaurant is accepting dogs on seats too, which was gross).

The main issue of this restaurant is understaffed poor management. The waitress mentioned above was hyper inefficient and she clearly does not enjoy her job. She should google how customer service work because she does not know how to treat customers but just being hostile from the beginning till the end.

Our side dishes did not come 15 mins after the main. 15 mins. Our food was getting cold so I stopped the waiter and asked, she then brought it 10 mins after. The food was almost finished so I made a comment. Then she blamed it to the kitchen without an apology and shouted "if you want we don't charge" so I said please, and she took the side dish away!

The poor attitude was totally unacceptable. I mentioned to the manager in mid age and he also blamed the issue to the kitchen (which in theory, that he is supposed to be in charge of, as a manager). While payment was going through. I asked for a compensation for the delay of service. He insisted he cannot do anything after the meal was served and the right after he made sure our payment went through, he started to say "you can get the drinks for free!".

This whole attitude was absolutely not acceptable and he really made us upset. I asked him, "As a manager, you seemed like you don't care about customers, I will write on review websites about the situation as we started to see others are complaining", and he accepted. NEVER EVER STEP INTO THIS PLACE, UNLESS YOU REALLY WANT TO...

Giving it a 1 because unfortunately I cannot give it a 0. A pity that such a historical and beautiful bar I have gone to quite a lot decides to allow its waitress to be plain rude with customers.

I went there last night with a group of friends (all couples just planning on enjoying a drink after dinner). Our waitress acted as if a group of dementors had entered and sucked the happiness out of her life. I asked for a bottle of water and she aggressively dropped the glass on the table when bringing it over. Whenever we ordered, it seemed as if an animal body was decaying and she was coping with the scent - just showing disgusted facial expressions, and rudely saying that she did not understand what we were saying (I don’t speak Dutch but everyone else is from Antwerp - and in any case, unlike others in the bar, we were completely sober coming from a civilised dinner). She told me off (which might be a polite term for her attitude) for putting a candle out of the candleholder - under normal circumstances and needless to say I would have apologised, but given that she basically spat at me for ruining the table (which did not happen), I was a bit shocked.

I work with customers too, and we can all have bad days. This attitude was plain unacceptable. Thanks for absolutely ruining our last drink...

We stumbled upon this place whilst looking for a bite to eat for lunch and we needed somewhere that could take 11 people. They said no problem and we were seated quickly. It was shortly after that the issues began.

We were asked to keep our food choices to no more than 6 different options. We had little choice but to agree but I've never been asked that when in a group before. Anyway, we ordered as requested. The food then trickled out of the kitchen bit by bit, meaning some of us had finished whilst others were still waiting. Food was also brought out that hadn't been ordered and the waitress firmly pointed the finger at us for her error. I don't care much for poor service and so she was quickly put in her place and sent away. The food continued to trickle out and to be honest, such a great looking place deserves better than slow food and terrible service.

I later asked for the bill and informed the chap behind the bar that we wouldn't be paying the full amount. 25 Euro was deducted as a result. He apologised but the establishment clearly lacks the...

Cafe Quinten Matsijs is reputed to be the oldest tavern in Antwerp and is a neat place to visit if you enjoy spending time in historic pubs, bars and tavern during your travels. This tavern has been here since 1565 and feels a few centuries old when you walk inside. Find locals lining the leather wall seats, giving friendly but noticeable stares at the many tourists invading what has likely been their local tavern for many decades. We found Cafe Quinten Matsijs a great place to pop in for a quick round of drinks, soaking up the atmosphere of this historic place. Waitstaff was very friendly, drinks reasonably priced. We didn't try their food. Note: Have a look at the old tavern game that is still found in Quinten Matsijs. I believe the waitress said it is called a 'Ton' and is around a 250 years old. That was really neat to see in De Quinten Matsijs.

I came here with a local friend. Quinten Matsijs is supposed to be the oldest bar in Antwerp, a few minutes walk from the busy center and just a few meters away from the beautiful baroque church and its small square. The atmosphere in the bar is pleasant. The decoration and surroundings tells you stories. The fire place must have been amazing when in use. The guests are a good mix of older Belgiens and tourists. Staff is ok. Maybe a bit tired after a long working day. The prices are fine. Toilettes are to be reached through stairs on the first floor, so not wheel chair unseres friendly. The bar is worth a visit at least for a drink if not for a snack.

Really good place to have a relaxing drink or snack. We stumbled upon this place without knowing it’s history or anything else, and the waiter was a very genuine guy that matched the serene atmosphere of the place. Weather was good so we sat outside, and it was a very pleasant afternoon with nice temperature. There’s a big plant on the side that covers the top as well and makes you feel like you’re in a little garden. Didn’t try the food but the beer selection was good!
