My right front tooth bit on a piece of glass found in their salad. The waitress took the glass and threw it away. No one came to apologize to us. My boyfriend and I wasn't sure if there's any more glasses in their food so we stopped eating. My front tooth was chipped from biting on the glass. It was not a small piece, worse things can happen if I have swallowed it. Then we talked to the person in charge for the night. Even though i don't understand Dutch but from his body language and shoulder shrugs I guessed he was saying there's nothing they can do. My boyfriend speaks Dutch and told me there's nothing they can do, just bad luck, that I can go home to get my tooth fixed and send them an email later. We want to have some kind of prove on paper of what happened, so my boyfriend wrote down what happened on a piece of paper and request the person in charge of the night to sign. He refused to sign and called the police. I knew at that time they will probably just disregard my email afterwards. I told him i would wait for the police. He scorned at me and saying the police might take 1 hour or 2 hours to be here. I said I'll wait. The police were understanding and they filed an internal case about the event. They said they can't force the person to sign the statement because he said i could have chipped my tooth anywhere and that i don't have proof. Just to make things clear, I don't walk around with a chipped tooth, especially not right before my vacation to Belgium just to scam this restaurant. I have dental insurance with work. I have already booked a dental appointment with my dentist office the day after i go back home. To the person who's in charge on Friday September 3rd from 8-10pm, I'm not sure how everyone else sees you as a person but how you dealt with this incident really says something about your character. And to me, you are not a decent person.
Update: just got my chipped teeth fixed. Caused me and my insurance company $550. Its unacceptable to have pieces of glass in food to begin with. We are going to report this place to food safety. And I'm considering going to the press. Person in charge said glass in salad is unavoidable. And it may come from the packaged salad. So whoever supplies salad for this place you are being blamed for no reason. For people who come to this restaurant, please be extremely careful when you eat. Because if you get hurt they will first deny their responsibility and very likely calling police on you when you try to reason with them...
Read moreI recently dined at De Pottekijker, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the warm and cozy ambiance made us feel right at home. The rustic decor and intimate setting created the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed evening. The service was exceptional—our waiter was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made great recommendations and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Now, onto the food—absolutely delicious! The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor. The seafood dishes were fresh and beautifully presented, and the portions were generous. We also tried the house-made desserts, and they were the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Overall, De Pottekijker is a must-visit if you’re looking for a great dining experience with top-notch service, amazing food, and a cozy atmosphere. I’ll definitely be returning! ✅ Pros: Cozy ambiance, excellent food, great service, good wine selection. ❌ Cons: Can get busy, so reservations are recommended. Would highly...
Read moreThe cafe spans two levels On the first floor there are only a couple of tables, the main dining room is upstairs on the second floor, and there’s also a small outdoor terrace.
When to go & booking We went on a Sunday evening. I’d recommend booking ahead, because spots fill up really fast. Big thanks to the staff for squeezing us in for a two-hour slot. Every table was taken, and people were actually eating, not just nursing a single drink.
Food • Boneless entrecôte — the portion is bigger, but the meat is a bit tougher than the beef tournedos • Beef tournedos — totally worth the price: super tender and delicious • Fish — my daughter was thrilled with her dish
The mushroom sauce goes perfectly with the meat. • Potatoes — definitely get the fries; I liked them even more than the baked potatoes with garlic butter • Salad — they brought one large, light, and fresh salad for the three of us
Drinks We had rosé wine — tasty and easy to drink.
Such a charming, atmospheric spot. I’ll definitely be back and highly...
