A lovely independent guest house and vegan restaurant. The owners and staff are so welcoming and kind.
They have meals at night which are open to the public. When we stayed it was a Jamaican menu. This was all plant-based and gluten-free.
We had breakfast which included tea, coffee and juice. We booked this the night before we ate.
My partner had home made granola with fresh fruit and rice milk.
Because I am coeliac and have to eat gluten free I was unable to have any of the breakfasts as they all included either bread, or regular oats, which I can't have.
I asked if I could have "leftovers" from the Jamaican meal for breakfast and the chef was very obliging and said yes. So I had delicious Jamaican breakfast. Nice healthy and filling.
The dining room is calm, light and airy. With an open kitchen. The room was on the 4th floor. There are no lifts so please don't stay here if you have mobility issues.
The room was large and had a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was ensuite and had glass panels with frosting so you couldn't see in. There are also a couple of separate toilets in the hallway if you prefer more privacy.
The guest house is in a quiet area and at night you don't hear anything. In the morning the road outside is busier at 8am... as you would expect in a city.
The guesthouse is close to tram route no 4, which takes you in the city centre. Otherwise it is 1 mile/1.6km walk.
There is a supermarket next to the tram stop which is also handy.
We recommend staying here. Very relaxing...
Read moreWhile the service and the ambient were really nice, the food quality was very poor and overpriced. The leek soup with oregano was way too sour, and I couldn't taste the oregano. The soup wasn't salty enough, and it had no depth of flavor whatsoever, just flat sourness (the garlic croutons didn't help much, as they were not really garlicky). The main dish, a scanty salad, was totally bland. The desert was also bland, and they have clearly used some cheap supermarket ingredients. A three-course dinner (a leek soup, a scanty salad, and a dessert) cost 40 euros per person. That is way too much for basically someone's hobby-level cooking. It's a shame because dedicated vegan restaurants are really difficult to find, and the whole concept is really interesting, from the pleasantly designed ambient, open kitchen, to really nice service (even though the server spoke poor English and was a bit amateurish). They should either hire a professional chef, or lower the prices and call it what it really is, a vanity project where amateurs have a...
Read moreWe had a great time at Simone's Kitchen and here is why: the food was just great! Everyday Simone prepares a menu that means that you can't choose of several dishes but you have to take what she has cooked. First I was a little bit sceptical because usually I am quite picky and I want to choose what I eat but as everything and really everything was so delicious and extraordinary good I did not mind that I did not have the chance to choose. I am a passionate vegan cook and I know how to cook good and also fancy vegan food but nevertheless the taste of the food was a new experience for me. Especially the main dish amazed me: seitan in a sweet and salty plum onion sauce with millet patties, aioli, kale, fresh salad and kohlrabi. apart from the food the athmosphere in her little back yard is just great: you sit in the middle of plants, grapes,... When we come back to Antwerpen, we will definitely go there again. Thanks, Simone for a...
