(BEDBUGS) Literally the worst hostel I've ever been to.
First of all, when you enter the hostel you are hit by this awful sewer smell, which makes it a pain to enter, especially when you don't expect it. Next to that, the rooms are dirty as well. The mattresses they let you sleep on are really thin and worn out, so you'll actually sleep on the framework of the bed. The bed is really loud as well, every time you turn, it creaks like it could crash down at any moment. The pillow also sucked, since it didn't fit in the sleeve, it had to be shoved in there, which resulted in a big pillow ball that was hard as a rock and really high. This all made sleeping there almost impossible.
The worst part actually came the morning after, when we found out the hostel is infested with bedbugs. When confronting the owner with the problem, they first said we were lying. When we showed them a picture of one of their beds with a bedbug on it, they eventually said they had terminated them all a week ago, and that they are probably just dead and that we shouldn't overreact. After we found them a live one, they just said that every hotel/hostel has the same problem. When we asked for a refund they said no and we could only get a refund if a person has bites, and only for that person (we were with 30). Apparently the bedbug problem isn't a new problem, the first review that said something about this was 4 years ago and it has been mentioned more than a few times between then and now.
To top it all off, when we came down that morning, what looked like a (drug using, needle marks were visible) homeless person was sleeping on the couch, which made me feel pretty uncomfortable, especially since the hostel rooms have no locks on them.
Wouldn't recommend going here, we're still trying to get our money back. Staff was friendly at first but when confronted with a problem they got pretty nasty. Bathrooms were bad as well. It may be the cheapest hostel in Antwerp, but I wouldn't even sleep here if...
Read moreI would give this 0 stars if possible.. it was by far the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in or have ever witnessed! It was impossible to tell if the staff all lived there or of they were guests that were just close to the staff. One of the "staff" members were in the same room as young girls and it felt like we were constantly being watched. And as if that wasn't enough from the "staff/guest" she came into the room at 5:30am and turned on the main light in the room. Then at 6:00am she opened the curtains so that there was no hope of anyone sleeping in, no matter what they tried. The rooms would leave you with the impression they are trying to shove as many beds as possible in the one room regardless of if it was practical or not. Sardines in a can like. They were also the really cheap mattresses meaning that the floor probably would have been more comfortable. There is only 1 toilet per floor and about 20 people for that 1 toilet. The showers were small, horrible and not at all practical. When going for a shower there is no means of keeping your clothes dry as there isn't even a shower door or curtain. This is also not at all wheelchair friendly as there is about 15 steps up into the reception area alone and it is about a 30 minute walk from the...
Read moreOne of the worst hostel experience for me. The main spanush/Italian guy at the desk had a very unruly behaviour, he would shout at you unnecessarily if you make any request without having any understanding of what the request is about. The whole hostel room creeks and vibrated if you take any heavy steps.
They give more preference to groups rather than solo travelers as more money. They don't provide lockers for your bag instead give small lockers for your valuables only, which would not be much an issue of the hostel was a bit more organized. Stayed here for two nights post the first night when I came back in evening I got to know that all my bags had been moved to another room without any information when complained about this the guy just wanted me to move my stuff from the locker and only explanation i got was that a bigger group arrived and we need to move you.
The hostel is also a 30 min walk from the main town centre. If possible avoid them unless in big group then they might listen a bit to your request.
Have two star coz the ithe staff n owner was a bit better but at the end the whole disorganised management is not even worthy of a...
