Standard Pizza — Restaurant in Antwerp

BELOW STANDARD The evening started really good, we were with a big group of 8 and we got a table inside. When we asked to sit outside, someone helped us kindly and got us a table. Then we ordered our pizzas, but unfortunately all the specials were sold out. No problem, this happens. After an hour of waiting on our pizzas a waiter came to offer us free drinks afterwards and apologize for the wait. We did not even realise the time had passed so quickly and were surprised by the kind offer. When the food finally arrived, the pizzas were below expectations. We asked if they were out of certain ingredients, that were on the menu but not on our pizzas. We got no response and they offered us free drinks afterwards again. After the pizza some of us made use of the offer of the free drinks. Then we got a lot of things that we did not order so we sent that back. To our surprise we had to pay for the excess drinks we did not order. When we asked to remove the excess items on our bill, they reproached us, saying we should never have taken the offer at all, since our neighbours also did not complain. Which we thought was rude and not customer friendly. It seemed it was fake curtosy to offer those drinks in the first place. We think that this place is BELOW STANDARD! I visited this place many times before since I live nearby and had an overall nice experience, however today I was passing by with my wife, kid and father in law and thought I go in for a coffee. The moment we got in there were two woman working there ( first time I saw them) we were looking for a free spot and literally 80 % of the restaurant was empty. The woman giving us weird looks and vibes asked us for a reservation and we told her we don’t have one, she looked at her tablet as if looking for something and in a cold unpleasant manner told us “ ok, yes you can sit” so we sat and ordered a coffee and the moment we finished our coffees she approached us with the bill and told us we had to leave because they needed tables for people who have to eat!!! Nowhere in the entrance it says the place is for eating only, nowhere at the door it is written only with reservations and I knew this since I went there many times...I mean who does that ? So anyway we left and we didn’t make any scene. Besides the fact I will never visit this place again I will make sure to let everyone know of this super weird unpleasant...

Located in the incredible 'Pakt' area, Standard is in good company. Above it are gardens that supply The Jane as well as their own kitchen. Opposite you'll find Caffénation, the famous Antwerp roasters, and all around there are some of the trendiest offices and companies around. Standard serves sourdough pizza's from an actual stone oven. The combinations are a mix of classics and funky own contraptions. Ideally you'd visit with a group (they have plenty of room, especially in summer), and share a few options.
