The Iris — Restaurant in Brussels

We went to great lengths to attend the New Year’s Eve party. And when I say ‘great lengths,’ I mean it – the communication with the restaurant was awful. I never received a reservation confirmation. When we arrived on December 31st, we were told our reservation was for 6:30 PM, which made no sense since I never mentioned a time. Plus, the website clearly stated the event started at 7 PM. The dinner itself was good – honestly, the only positive thing about the experience. Watching the fireworks from the rooftop was a complete disaster in a totally unfestive setting. The place is lovely, nicely decorated, with a nice view on the garden - the food is very good as well. I can't give a five star review though, for the following reason... While we were still enjoying our coffee right after our meal and having a chat, the waiter came to our table and put the bill on the table... We hadn't asked for the bill yet, as we were still having coffee - so we both found it very strange that it was brought to us like this, and it made us feel like we were asked to quickly pay and were almost being "pushed" out of the place. We felt pretty unwelcome and uncomfortable after that - so we just paid and left. Very unpleasant end of what was otherwise...

The manager of the bar was extremely impolite, refusing to provide a simply appetiser under the pretext that the Resto was full. Only 3 tables out of the 20 were occupied, when inquired why is he still refusing a simple Bao buns ( 2 mins preparation) he indicated that he expects more people to come. The chef of the Resto was not awfully busy either. The lack of respect towards the client was pervasive, it was not a 5 course dinner but just a simple appetiser to accompany the expensive cocktails. For a 5* stars hotel this is simply ridiculous. I would replace soon this newly appointed manager as this will hurt really the prestige of this...
