Markt 12 — Restaurant in Damme

Arrogant owner - poor quality food

We visited Markt12 in Damme yesterday. Waited over 45 mins in a half empty restaurant. 2 people in an adjacent table who had been there before we arrived walked out after a testy exchange of words with the owner who was shouting at them. We were considering doing the same just as our incomplete order finally arrived. We were told it was the chef’s first day. The food was tasteless, barely warm & incorrect. When we queried the bill (charged 22 Euros for 2 prawn croquettes which were disgusting - as were the spring rolls) the owner went into a rage & was incredibly rude to one of our party. He also put his hand up to the face of another member of our party. He finally agreed to reduce the bill by a paltry 7 Euros. It cost us 73 Euros for something we couldn’t eat as it was unpalatable. Nice restaurant and decoration , can’t speak for the choice of food but I wanted to write about the totally unreasonable price. We had the regular burger for 35€.. while this pricing could happen in place like Saint tropez or Monaco or even Knokke this is absolutely crazy , and you would expect a high quality beef for that price .. but not at all it was just a regular burger. As a customer we have to speak out when we think it’s not reasonable , I am sorry to say but this is a total rip off. I hope I never pay that much for a lunch visiting this small city for 30 minutes. The service is very slow, took 2 h (we were 5 and only one person had a starter).Two people ordered mussels, one with white wine, one with cream and garlic. 1.2 kg was on the menu, I think it was maximum 750 grams each portion. Also, both were nature. We have asked the waiter and he said he will check. 5 minutes later, no answer so we gave up. He never cameback, but only when we asked him to come…no apologies, no free drink on the house or discount. The food is overpriced and the service is bad.
