Bidon - One of Ghent’s Best Coffee Bars

For coffee lovers in Ghent, Bidon is an absolute must-visit. This renowned coffee bar has earned its place as one of the best in the city thanks to its high-quality coffee, welcoming atmosphere, and strong ties to cycling culture. Bidon’s coffee is top-notch. With expertly crafted espressos, silky flat whites, and perfect pour-overs. They use high-quality beans and have the best for plant-based options, ensuring every coffee is rich and satisfying. The café offers a cozy, modern vibe that’s both lively and comfortable. It’s perfect for those looking to work, relax, or catch up with friends, and the friendly staff always make you feel at home. Bidon’s connection to cycling culture sets it apart. It’s a favorite spot for cyclists, and the name itself, meaning “water bottle” in French, reflects the café’s love for bikes. The staff at Bidon are knowledgeable and passionate about coffee, offering recommendations and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all customers.

For a top-tier coffee experience in Ghent, Bidon is truly...

It is a lovely cafe in a great location. Combining bikes and coffee is always a good idea. We had coffee and pastry - it was very nice (not as in specialty coffee shops, but certainly above average).

However, the place is so disorganized that it took staff more than 30 minutes to make our coffee - they run out of cups, then run out of buzzers (you have to order, then you get the buzzer, so you know when you can come back and collect your order) then they couldn't keep track and were delivering wrong orders. In the end they started sending customers back because they could not keep up. Staff is very young and so poorly organized - I was not sure if I should feel bad for them or angry at them. There are much better places in Gent to enjoy a...

LESS HEIST, MORE SPEED!

A simple espresso and the noble art of over complicating even the most basic tasks. I've never had a coffee served with a buzzer. You either serve me at the counter or you bring it over, don't try to reinvent the wheel hipster-style. Especially when you charged me 3.30€ for a double espresso of just average quality; all of this while having a multi headed Marzocco that costs as much as a small car and would potentially make 6 coffees and steam two milk jugs at the same time. Cut the giggling behind the counter and speed up, it's Monday morning and people want to get on with their lives.

It would take me less time to cook a medium rare ribeye steak. No joking. This review took 6...

Was recommended by an Airbnb host to visit here. I didn't try the coffee as old age means can't sleep at night. Tried the Green Bancha Tea, Soup of the day, and a ham and cheese sandwich. Costed me €14 in total which filled me right up. Friendly staff, nice ambience and very spacious. Good for meet ups with friends, or colleagues, or even for solos to do work. Nice chilled out music. Outside has construction work but I've been told they are digging up the canal again for the boats to run through again. Forgot to mention this place takes card only and no cash. Order at the till when ready. I would visit again when I visit Gent. A big thumbs up from me.

Absolutely love this place. The bike theme is very much present in a fun way. When sunny they put chairs and tables outside and you can enjoy your drinks in the sun next to the water. Staff has very little knowledge about the drinks they serve though, I asked two staff members what kind of beer one on the menu was and they both didn't know. The cakes look nice and home made. I would come back here.

The chai latte here is pretty bad. They basically heated up milk and sprinkled cinnamon on it. I took one sip and asked to change it, rather than drink it with disgust or walk away disappointed. To my surprise they didn’t let me change a full chai latte, which was tasteless. Hence the review. The location and the vibe in the café is nice though. They had cool music playing as well.
