SGOL Restaurant, located at Hoornstraat in the vibrant Emile Braunplein area of Ghent, Belgium, offers an exceptional dining experience that combines both taste and atmosphere. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy feel, making it an ideal spot for both casual meals and special occasions.
One of the highlights of our visit was the fish stew, which was rich in flavor and perfectly prepared. The fish was fresh and tender, paired with a savory broth that was packed with subtle herbs and spices, creating a comforting dish that left a lasting impression. The portion size was generous, ensuring we enjoyed every bite.
Equally impressive was the beef lasagna, a hearty and satisfying option. The layers of pasta were beautifully complemented by a rich, flavorful beef filling that had been slow-cooked to perfection. The balance of cheese and sauce was just right, making each bite melt in the mouth. It was evident that the chefs take great care in crafting each dish, using high-quality ingredients to create something special.
The service at SGOL was attentive and friendly, with staff members who were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The restaurantās location in Ghent adds to its charm, offering a lovely view of the surrounding area, perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal.
Overall, SGOL is a fantastic choice for those looking to indulge in delicious, well-prepared meals in a welcoming environment. Whether you're craving a comforting fish stew or a rich beef lasagna, this restaurant is sure to impress with its culinary offerings and excellent service. Highly recommended for anyone...
Ā Ā Ā Read more"Sgol" is THE REAL GHENT GRAND CAFĆ, and we, locals and our own government, should continue to support it. š„° Whenever I have a group of guests for a weekend... this is one of the places I recommend for a little coffee, rest stop or a meal. In an intensely touristic city, Sgol is very central and at the same time, spacious, cozy, clean and has a good variety in it's menu, including vegan options. For international guests, it serves all the classic Flemish dishes and desserts to ensure they don't miss out.
The staff are also generally very flexible and welcoming. Last summer, a group of friends were delayed in their trip from Brussels, and the team was super gracious about it.
P.S. Sgol's bar is very well stocked: with wines from small producers, biodynamic gems, Belgian beers, quirky cocktails or familiar classics.
But, like I said, for me, it's the location that can't be underestimated, especially for tired...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a very disappointing experience here. Since the sun was directly in my eye sight, I moved to the opposite side of the table which means that I technically took another table. There were plenty of tables around, so I didnt think this would be an issue. A male staff member approached in a very rude and condescending manner, saying this was āunacceptable everywhere.ā Even when I offered to move back, his tone was dismissive and disrespectful.
We felt so uncomfortable with his attitude that we decided to leave without ordering. A polite explanation would have been enough, but the unprofessional behavior completely ruined the experience.
+++ Reply to SGOL's comment +++ Letās be clear: we did not ask nor placed the cushions. They were put there by the waitress because the chairs were still wet.
Weāre not interested in debating this any further. What matters is that the waiterās attitude completely killed...
