As Belgian beer bars go, this one offering a wide range of beers is okay. You will still be able to try a wide variety of beers, so if that is your aim, then this place is perfectly suitable. However, it only has something between 300 and 400 beers, which is 20% less than some of the other Belgian beer bars you can find in Gent. I would add a star, taking them to 4 stars, for providing the beer catalogue/menu which is very useful for the enthusiast wishing to try a number of new beers - and you can buy this catalogue is you wish to keep track of your tastings, but I give them 3 stars because the food we ate was quite average. My partner loves eating the local cheese with mustard dip, but the mustard here was generic version straight out of the supermarket. The mustard provided in a number of other places is the local Gent fresh mustard which has far greater character. I had the stoofvlees and, although suitable, was kind of average in its plating, portion-size and overall experience. I have had far better. I guess that this is to be expected from a chain pub. The level of service was mixed. Although service was quite attentive and friendly, it was apparent that beer knowledge at a specialist beer bar was not as high as would be hoped from some of the staff. Luckily, we sat at the bar and had our selection aided by the barman, Rory, who knew the beers and provided excellent recommendations. We discovered the lack of knowledge when he was downstairs tapping a new keg and one of the other...
Read moreWent to have a lunch at bier central in Ghent. When upon arrival i have noticed they where under staffed. Bu none the less, the lady with red glasses and black hair did her very best to go as fast as she could and maintaining a smile on her face towards the costumers, she was very friendly and eventhough she was clearly very busy doing the entire inside of the bar on her own, she still tried her very best to give us the best service possible. If i may add, this was not easy for her to do because her other female college did not help out at all. She ignored us a few times, while it was clear she saw us waving. She did not help out at all. And was more busy doing God knows what, besides her job. I was happy the lady with the red glasses and black hair was there because she made sure we had a good experience after all. Also a big shout out to the bartender who did more than just his job by helping the lady with the glasses out by bringing the drinks and food that her female college refused to bring out. So for those 2 i gave a big tip. The food btw was really good and the beers...
Read moreUnfortunate update: I went again with my boyfriend during the last days of December 2023, the quality of the food diminished and the waitress was rude and showed a horrible attitude. Since she was treating the people around us very nicely, I felt her treatment towards us was due to racism. It felt like a bummer after having a great experience one year back when I visited with my dad. I do recommend Bier Central in other cities, and in general, but I do hope this type of service doesn't become their new normality.
My review from december 2022:
The food is delicious and the variety of beers is outstanding. The doors of the entrance might required a bit of assistance but there is no step and there is a wheelchair accesible bathroom in the first floor. While the space might be a bit tight between the tables it is manageable for wheelchair users and the staff seem to be very...
