My dining experience was so disappointing. When I arrived, I asked for a seat outside. I’m assuming that was the wrong thing to do. Everyone that sat down after me just sat themselves. Which might explain why the waiter might have been a little annoyed with me. I placed my order, a beer, mussels with white wine, and crème brûlée. When the muscles were brought out they were taken to the table next to me. They said they didn’t order it and she brought it to me. When she removed the lid They were covered in onions and celery. The menu did not say anything about onions and celery. So, when the waiter came outside I asked him if this was the correct order. He asked me what did I order. I told him the mussels with white wine and he said “OK that’s what you got what’s the problem?” I told him the menu didn’t say that they would come with onions and celery, and there was hardly any broth in the pot. He said.” all of the mussels come with celery and onions.” His responses wasn’t helpful for me at all. He comes to collect the pot after I finish eating and confirms that I still want to crème brûlée. He never returned. I waited 10-15 minutes. Another waitress came to ask me if I was done and I told her I was still waiting for my dessert. She returned two seconds later. I finished crème brûlée and another long wait began. I decide to go inside to pay my bill because no one had come back outside to check on me. Another person would have probably gotten upset and just walked away...
Read moreWas a nice experience, although some small gripes arised with the personnel: It was early noon, half a dozen tables, maybe a few more, and part of our order was forgotten. Also, the personnel seems to have low voices, which means we have to listen extremely carefully or we miss half what they say.
That being out of the way though, the personnel is kind.
About the food, there's a decent selection to choose from, at ok prices, until the dishes were served... We were glad none of us chose side dishes! Quantities were more than needed by the average people, and it tasted so good, we did our best to clean our dishes. And full, we were. The "apéritif Volle Gas" was refreshing, and tasty. We took a pichet of red wine. They offer two sorts: the normal one and, for a slightly higher price, the wine of the month, which bottles are shown on every table. We went for the latter and it was a nice drink, with some character.
All in all, the scoring we gave was between 7 and 7,5 on a scale of 10. Which surely means we will return for...
Read moreThe Volle Gas is a traditional Belgian brasserie in the Ixelles Area. Close to a lovely theatre, the view from the terrace of the restaurant is enjoyable but the interior is the real gem of the place. Food and drink wise, you will get a large choice of dishes and beers. I had the shrimp croquettes and the mussels with garlic and cream. I did not expect the portion to be so generous. The starter was good. I had two large croquettes. The mussels were also fresh and good but the portion is gigantic! You have almost have a kilo per person and with the starter, I haven't been able to eat half of the mussels. Staff wise, the waiters were nice. We even received an after-dinner liqueur on the house. My only problem with this restaurant is the price of the dishes. 15 euros for 2 shrimp croquettes and 22 euros for mussels seems a bit overpriced although it seems that other similar restaurants offer even higher prices for the same dishes.... Brussels, you...
