I sat down and reviewed the menu. When the waiter came, I politely greeted her and asked her how she is doing. Her response came with a raised hand and with a raised voice, "Do you REALLY want to know how I'm doing, do you REALLY? I want to sit down, that's how I feel." I told her I'm really sorry that she is tired but I will try to order quickly. I asked her about her opinion between two pastas and which one she recommends. This time she raised both hands, rolled her eyes and responded "Oh sir they are both just fine, just pick one". It appears that the staff was overworked and tired, but nonetheless no reason to have such attitude. When my food came I asked another waiter for pepper. The waiter looked distrustfully into the salt snd pepper container and did not say a word. A couple minutes later she returned and literally threw a few sachets of paper on the table and left. Not a single word exchanged in this process. It appeared that they were mich friendlier with the older parties and bigger parties. While eating my pasta, the first waiter came back and took the complimentary peanuts from my table and put it back to the unused ones. When I tried to pay the 2nd waiter magically gained her voice back and with raised eyes asked if everything was OK (expecpecting a tip). I can't remember the last time I didn't tip someone. My experiences at this place vary drastically. The first time I went with all English speaking diners was nice enough with good service and okay food, not really authentic but nice enough. The second time I went with my obviously foreign looking family who were visiting went downhill very fast. They do not speak English very well, so I took care of ordering, but the waiting staff was presumably annoyed by the delay from going back and forth with the translation. Nice pizza place in Mechelen. They offer vegan and vegetarian pizza, which gives them a +1 in my book. The pizzas themselves are very nice as, with a crispy thin crust and fresh ingredients. The interior isn't the best, but it's definitely a work-in-progress. We sat on rickety chair and the details in presentation and atmosphere weren't quite there yet.
