The whole experience is interesting. It's a one man show- he cooks and he serves, so it can be slow at times. The place itself seems to be stuck in the 70s. The food is reaaaally cheap (5,50 euros for the meal of the day) and it's actually good- the french fries are so good and always come in very generous portions. You just need to get used to the owner: he only accepts cash and does not seem to like Mediterranean people or non-Belgian nationals in general (he is inclusive in the exclusiveness) so he can give a bit of an attitude(for that price I can stand it fr); he always wears a mask so I don't know if he ever smiled in his life, but since I started speaking French with him he actually somehow started to be more accepting(thank you French evening classes for this), even randomly started talking about his life- my personal favourite is the story of when he drank around 250 beers with a friend, passed out for three days and then reopened the restaurant like nothing happened. Was he just messing with us? I don't know, maybe, but...
Read moreI live in the neighbourhood and came here with my partner attracted by the positive reviews. Once inside, three men sitting in the left start staring at us. We were waiting to be assigned a table and these men tell us 'assoyez-vous' pointing to a table marked as 'reservé'. I indicate that the table is reserved but the men insist. Thinking they are friends with the owner, we sit down. The owner comes out from the kitchen and tell us 'VOUS AVEZ COMMIS UNE GRAVE ERREUR EN UTILISANT UNE TABLE RÉSERVÉE'. The three men keep laughing at us. The owner asks in a rude manner why we follow instructions from other clients. I thought for a moment it was all a joke, but the owner then repeats 'vous pouvez rester, mais vous avez commis une grave erreur'. It was clear now that the owner was dead serious about this silly situation, which could have easily been handled better. At that moment, we didn't feel comfortable anymore and decided to leave the place feeling confused. Maybe the owner was having...
Read moreI have been meaning to try this place for a while now. It is a very special place, quite hidden and it seems it is only known to the local clientele. Many people eat there on a daily basis. I didn't take any photos but the portion is more than filling, I had the plat du jour which is a soup and a main. The prices are not comparable to anything. Possibly the cheapest place in the quartier. I will definitely be back and enjoy some more homemade food. If you prefer shiny, new decor, this is not your place, however, if you want to eat well, be served by a lovely gentleman, be surrounded by locals, this...
