Munchies - Food & Drinks — Restaurant in Ypres

If you want to experience something like Gordon Ramsay's kitchen disaster in real life, this is the place to go. Our entrees were decent and waiting staff was friendly. We ordered pasta and pizza for our main course. Upon arriving I notice my pizza is very wet. When I started cutting into it I see the contents just sliding away on the surface and after lifting my slice, everything fell off. I was left with a blob of cheese on my plate and bare(ly cooked) pizza dough in my hand. I tried cutting a second slice and the same thing happened. I have never sent food back to the kitchen before, but I decided to ask our waitress if I can get a replacement pizza. Now here comes the good part: the chef (and owner of the place) comes out to briefly ask what is wrong. When I show him my problem he starts accusing me of not knowing what buffalo mozzarella is and that it's supposed to be wet. We try to reason with him, but he's just telling us that he's been making this pizza for over 10 years and never had any complaints. It's ironic that the place hasn't even been open for that long. He proceeds to tell me to know what I order when I look at a menu, so I don't get something I don't like. I tell him that I just don't want a soggy pizza and that we're not willing to pay for it. He tells me replacement isn't possible as well because every pizza would be like this and demands we come up with a solution. He walks off and say we have to pay regardless. We decide to walk off, because of this inhumane interaction. He runs after us and demands we pay for drinks, when we agree and come back inside he says we need to pay for the barely touched pasta too. Luckily our waitress decides to step in and we pay for the entrees and drinks. The chef was still angry and wondering why I wouldn't pay for the saddest pizza I have ever touched. I genuinely hope this was indeed his first failed pizza ever,...

I would give them a 20/10 if I could! Anytime I visit Ypres I always stop by Munchies! They have the best food hands down - not just their food, but their customer service is exceptional. I love both the owners, they're so kind and they've created a beautiful atmosphere for their customers. I would try and recommend a pizza or pasta but to be honest all of them are my favourite! I'll even take home an extra because it's that good! Can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Ypres ❤️
