No visit to Ambergris Caye is complete without an afternoon at the Palapa Bar. Situated at the end of a dock surrounded by turquoise waters and cool breezes, Palapa Bar attracts a mix of locals, travelers, and some of the coolest bartenders on the island. On a warm day, eschew the barstools and opt instead to float in inner tubes beside the dock; you can even have cold buckets of Belize’s Belikin beers lowered down to you. In addition to beer and standard cocktails, fun creations like Scotty’s Palapa Punch (three different types of rum, triple sec, mango, pineapple, and a squeeze of lime) offer some island-inspired refreshment. Up in the palapa, recommended items from the menu include sausage dip, pulled pork sandwiches, and the immense half-pound burger. Palapa Bar is 1.5 miles north of town and easily reached by golf cart, taxi, bicycle, or water taxi, which drops you right off at the dock.

pulled up with the crew for dinner and the vibes were immaculate 😩✨ university banners on the ceiling, walls covered in stickers and island signs—whole spot giving good energy 🔥🌴 then, live music 6-9pm?? ABSOLUTE VIBES. it’s a bar, so the music had everyone lit all night 🎸🍻 BUT THEN… storm hits, power goes out 😱 kids were lowkey losing it but honestly? it was chill—felt like the place was made for that kinda chaos. power came back in like a minute, so it was nothing but laughs and memories made 💡🙌🏾 10/10 would do stormy vibes again YO THE FOOD THO?? 😩🔥 i got the grouper fish fillet and i swear, it was THE BEST fish fillet in SAN PEDRO 💯 like i’m literally out of words trying to hype this up enough, it was that GOOD. Grilled, fresh, just perfect—i’m already planning my next visit just to get the same exact thing again 😂💥 10/10 would devour again and again.

Really enjoyed visiting Palapa while we were in San Pedro, Belize. We went there at least three times in a 4 day period, we ate lunch, dinner and enjoyed a few happy hours there. This place had a great atmosphere and it seemed like there was always something going on, if there wasn't great live music going, there was good people watching and there always seemed to be good sea life swimming by the dock. We saw eagle rays, sting rays, all kinds of fish and even a bull shark. We had shrimp tacos, fish burger, shrimp ceviche and enjoyed it all. We also had great cocktails, with fresh juice, watermelon and rum was a favorite. I'd recommend this if you are in San Pedro and if you stop in and get a chance to either be served by or have Ricky as your bartender, say hi to him for me, he's the best!!

When in San Pedro you have to visit. This place is so cool. The tires in the water are so cool, but the coolest part of that is the rope they attach your buck of beer to and send it to you while you sit in the tires.

If you like swimming with fish you may be able to swim with some eels there. There is a plethora of fish near the Palapa so you will enjoy it.

Now food, get the peel and eat shrimp, you will not regret it. The fajitas are delicious. Not the fajita skin I'm used to at home. It's more like a Naan but good nonetheless. Do not get the nachos, not the greatest. The cheviche with snapper was so fresh. You didn't even taste the fish. It was done really well, and FYI, I don't like cheviche. The wings were good and the drinks were really good . The onion rings were really good. I just wish the onions were cut thinner. They have this really good dipping sauce that goes with it delicious.

All in all, you can go and chill and sit outside for a couple of hours or a couple of minutes. Either way, you are going to...

Are there any reviews submitted by other than "Local Guide"......seems loco y loco to me. If you think you will find food, drinks or brew cheaper than the States ..... You are totally wrong. I don't know where they get the shrimp, never saw a shrimp boat in the harbor. You have a very limited selection of beer....Belikin, Belikin or Belikin served in heavy glass bottles that deliver maybe a half pint.... Insane. The country music drove myself and my wife crazy after awhile, just. because the owner likes country doesn't mean the clientele do. Food was average, overpriced, staff was friendly as was the view, smokers must be thrown in the bay.

I will still go with believing many of the 4 or 5 star reviews are written by the staff. They all sound the same. It's not a bad place, just not a great place. If you find the prices are totally affordable for drinks or food....your wrong. Go to the places the locals go to and get a fair price....ya all must...

It took two hours to get our food and the people that came after us got their food before us. A heads up would have been nice or an apology before the 2 hours would have been acceptable, maybe a complimentary appetizer to hold us over since there was such a delay. We got silence from our waiter besides the occasional do we need more drinks. Come to find out when we paid the bill, the waiter finally told us the kitchen had forgotten our order twice. Again, a heads up earlier would have been nice. When we finally got our food the fish tacos and the shrimp tacos were bland and only lukewarm, the vegetable quesadilla had a hand full of veggies and about a lb of cheese in it. This was our second dinner on the island and I was extremely disappointed, especially after reading the reviews. This place ruined our evening. There are tons of smaller places that would appreciate your business more than this one, please support the other...
