Aji Tapa Bar and Restaurant — Restaurant in San Pedro Town

My spouse and I stayed at PUR during our time on San Pedro, when we arrived at Aji, one of the staff members who also works at PUR immediately recognized us and said hello, and ensured we received a discount for being affiliated guests without us having to ask. Service was friendly and polite, and the restaurant is in a really nice, quiet waterfront location. The drinks we ordered were good, the shrimp scampi was well seasoned and quite good, but I would say the pasta carbonara with shrimp was nothing to write home about. We also ordered the chocolate cheesecake, which was good but wasn't anything particularly special. I suspect the key lime pie or coconut pie take advantage of local ingredients and would have been better choices. The owner of the establishment made a point to walk around the tables and greet guests personally, which was a nice personal touch, but he didn't linger long enough to be intrusive or interrupt our meal. Aji Tapa might have been the highlight of a great vacation in Belize. We stayed at Bella Vista and ate here many times. Breakfast, lunch, dinner....all were wonderful. Highlight is the fresh seafood that really can't be beat. Paella, speared lobster, shrimp bruschetta. (Anything with shrimp or lobster for us!) Fresh fish. Calamari melted in your mouth. A wide variety of fruity drinks as well as great sangria and a solid wine list. Unlike some places, fresh water was provided upon request. And we thought prices were extremely reasonable considering the fare. Canceled our final evening reservation elsewhere to eat here once more. Such an adorable little find on the water. Delicious food and excellent service! It was quite windy the night we visited but they have clear plastic guards up to help with the wind. The ambience here is so inviting… twinkling lights at all of the tables positioned in the sand under beautiful lit palm trees. So romantic and quaint! We had yummy appetizers and drinks as well as delicious food! My husband enjoyed the special red snapper, my son was catered to with the kids menu and had pasta and chicken, and I had the vegetable paella. Everything was so fresh and delectable! The staff was attentive and made sure we were taken care of, all working together nicely but not an imposition....
