La Sanpedrana — Restaurant in San Pedro Town

We ate here in October 2023. Food and atmosphere were ok at best. We should have left at the first yellow flag but that's on us. When we were finished with our dinner the bill came in at $84BZ. My husband paid $100US (two fifty dollar bills) because he wanted some change back in BZ. The waiter brought the bill back for the other couple with us (they had paid by credit card) and we had to ask multiple times for our change back. When it came back, there was only $10BZ in the check jacket. I got up and asked the waiter (who was trying to walk away from me) where the other money was as we had paid $100US and he said "oh, I tucked it in the corner here for you it was only $84BZ and you gave me too much". He then took the check jacket and in the little flap in the corner, the $50US bill was folded very small and hidden deep in the corner where it couldn't be seen. Had I not asked, he would not have offered that information and would have had a HEFTY tip. We've been to Belize over a dozen times. This was our first and last time at this particular restaurant. We've never once had someone try to scam us like that in all of our trips. We left very disappointed and will surely never visit this...

Memorable experience in a different way. Our waiter asked if we wanted drinks, as expected. I gambled and asked for an Aperol spritz. He looked at me funny and said we don't have that. But in the end he said he would ask the bartender. When he came back he said his manger went out and bought a bottle of Aperol. But they didn't know how to make the drink! I had to explain 2 parts Aperol, 3 parts Prosecco, 1 part sprite. They actually made it for me. I would say it looked the part (see photo) and was close enough to the taste I am used to that it passed the test. He admitted that no one had ever asked for that drink from him. I think tonight was memorable for him too. I ordered the black bean burger, thinking I would get a firm bean patty. Walked past this place a dozen times. Finally, we decided to try their burger and curry. The server did a great job, and she answered all of our questions after going back and forth to the kitchen to make sure they could make certain dish.

We added pineapple and mango smoothies, which was one of the best we have had the last 4 days. And we had them almost at every restaurant we went to.

The lobster curry had a fantastic aroma like a good curry should. However, it was a bit overly salty to my taste, and I was missing the coconut flavor on the rice. If it were less salty, it would have been perfect.

The burger was great. The patty was a bit on the dry side...
