We spent 9 days on the island and ate a different place every day. We were looking for a different grill spot and when it wasn't open we decided to follow the sign and walk around the airport. There was a man painting a bike and asked if we were going to Chef D's. When we said yes he smiled and said we made a good choice. He was telling the truth.
This was without a doubt, the best meal we had in Belize. I had the fish and it was fried so perfect, not a single bone came off and the coconut rice had so much flavor. Throw some Marie Sharps on and it was amazing. The flavors all blended seamlessly. The atmosphere is so intimate and removed from the touristy areas. I was so happy. It was exactly what I was looking for when I came to this island. The woman serving us, who I guess is their daughter was so warm and friendly. We even saw her on the water taxi in Belize City and she remembered and said hi to us.
It was a meal I will remember forever. I felt bad because it was soo good I didn't even share a bite with the cat hanging out. Sorry kitty. Maybe next time. My biggest regret is I didn't go there again in...
Read moreI must confess that having dinner in a field was a first for me. I have had some great meals on this island over the years, but I had never ventured past the airport for a meal.
The food was very good. I came early and I was the only one there at that time, but I know it gets busier as it gets a little later in the day. I went very early because I thought some rain was coming in and wanted to try it before I left
My favorite restaurant on the island was happy lobster but they have gotten pricey and the service was not so good so I came here and the lobster was better and less expensive.
I also got the added benefit of a cat to share my lobster with. As a cat person, I was charmed…. not that the cat jumped up on me or anything, but it certainly didnt hesitate when I invited it over.
I will definitely be back on...
Read moreI will admit to knowing the family as I live most of my year on Caye Caulker. I have eaten breakfast twice at Chef D's since opening. The first thing I've noticed when sitting there is that it's cool, quiet and clean. The menu is pretty typical of locally owned and run eateries on the caye. This morning I chose a BLT, while my partner had fryjacks with eggs and refried beans. The bacon was crispy, the lettuce crunchy and the tomato fresh. Local bread toasted was fine. As an accompaniment there was pickled chopped onion. Be warned you soft mouthed North Americans...it's really hot. This is a good place if you are on a limited budget, or just want to relax out of the sun.
Chef D’s is now located near the airport.
