We stayed at Tree Tops for a too-short stay of 3 nights, our first visit to Caye Caulker, in January 2024. Everything about the hotel and the island exceeded our already high expectations.
Long before our visit, the hotel manager, Audre, was invaluable. She responded promptly and comprehensively to our naive - and likely bothersome - questions about Caye Caulker and how we might travel to the island from the international airport in Belize City. Upon arrival, Audre again was always available to answer any questions and provide advice on restaurants, snorkeling, boat tours or any other aspects of life on Caye Caulker. Other staff we encountered were equally courteous and helpful.
The hotel is quite wonderful. Just the right size, clean, quiet, with a magnificent ocean view, set on a pedestrian-only road that does not even feature the golf cart-like vehicles that are elsewhere on the car-free island. The winds off the sea make relaxing on the balcony of the Sunrise Suite a pleasure even in the warmest weather. The hotel is a 2-3 minute walk from the main street of Caye Caulker but quite removed from the modest bustle and bustle of the center’s restaurants, bars and shops.
Caye Caulker itself is magical. Cars are entirely absent, no large hotels, condos, or fancy restaurants and bars. It is a humble, informal spot where visitors are part of the community rather than separated by the fences and gates of some Caribbean resorts. It lacks the long expanses of white sands of many popular tourist destinations. Those looking for the traditional fun-in-the-sun vacation might look to the mainland coast of Belize or the nearby larger island, Caye Ambergris. But Caye Caulker is the ideal spot for those interested in snorkeling, interesting boat tours and swimming off docks and the shoreline in beautiful, clear waters.
We have nothing but good things to say about Tree Tops and recommend it...
Read moreMy new wife and I stayed at the Tree Tops Hotel on Caye Caulker for 9 nights for our honeymoon. It was incredible. One of the best things is the personal touches. When we first arrived, the owners/hosts Giambattista and Valentina had prepared a beautiful plumeria bouquet and a bottle of delicious Prosecco. We enjoyed our first night on the island with sweet tropical smells and good drink thanks to their kindness. Giambattista and Valentina are reason to visit in their own right. They are friendly, helpful, and willing to invite you into their own home at any time. At a resort, you might get room service, but here you get true hospitality. Take some time to get to know them, and you will not be disappointed by their interesting lives and expansive kindness. In 2020, they purchased the location and immediately invested in serious renovations. Their hard work shows in a beautiful private paradise with some of the best amenities on the island, including a manicured private beach and free access to bicycles (very useful on the island). Additionally, the kitchen space attached to our room came furnished with everything we needed to cook, reheat leftovers, make drinks, eat tropical fruit, and more. To those of you who have been to the island before: please consider Tree Tops for your next stay. I guarantee it is better than wherever else you stayed. We made friends in other hotels, and found nothing better. To those who have never been to Caye Caulker: the Tree Tops Hotel is the best experience you can have on the island. This is not a regular resort town. It somehow combines the luxury of tropical adventure paradise with a touch of creole culture and the reality of life for locals, and there is simply not a better way to experience it than at the...
Read moreWe can’t say enough great things about Treetops Hotel. Our stay started with us arriving on Caye Caulker 2 hours ahead of time. However, that wasn’t a problem with Treetops Hotel. They had the taxi at the airport waiting to take us to the hotel, and it room was ready for us when we arrived! Audrey welcomed us, showed us to our room, and gave us the breakdown of the hotel - everything we needed to know for our stay. After spending a long day flying to Caye Caulker, having our room ready and receiving a friendly welcome meant a lot to us! The room was exceptionally clean, cool (bonus since Caye Caulker was experiencing a heatwave for most of our stay), and we had bottled water in our room fridge! Audrey also gave us the contact info for the taxi driver, Cal, so that we could contact him when we needed a ride. Cal was always there for us when we needed a ride. Audrey greeted us each day and made sure all was well and we were comfortable. We ended up doing several scuba dives (complete our cert dives and two rec dives), therefore we appreciated Audrey checking to make sure all was well with us and our stay at Treetops. There are plenty of restaurants and tour shops within walking distance of Treetops. (We used a taxi when we had to carry scuba gear or if we didn’t want to have to walk in the heat of the day.) We will definitely stay at Treetops whenever we are in Caye Caulker! We highly recommend Treetops to anyone wanting to stay on...
