The Hog Penny — Restaurant in City of Hamilton

My family and I arrived in Hamilton late one evening, and after trying several restaurants that couldn’t accommodate our party of seven, we decided to take a chance and walked into The Hog Penny. To our surprise and delight, they welcomed us in with open arms, even though it was close to closing time.

The service was exceptional—phenomenal, really. Despite the late hour, the staff made us feel completely at ease, never once rushing us through our meal. The food was outstanding, with each dish served hot, fresh, and full of flavor. We couldn't have asked for a better dining experience, especially after a long day of travel.

We went to dinner here with 2 other couples after reading great online reviews. Maybe it was an off night but our experience was just meh. Service was friendly but drinks and food were slow. To me this was average Irish pub fare. 3 of us had fish and chips which were tasty. My husband has a gluten allergy and there are no gluten free options so he went with lamb chops. They were more like loli-chops as they were tiny. Chicken pot pie looked amazing. Those that had shepherd's pie swore it was identical to what was served at Flannigan's, I can't confirm nor deny those rumors. YUM! great for a quick bite. classic english pub vibes. the wahoo bites were my first encounter with wahoo on the island, and as someone who really does not like fish, it was amazing. i’m not actually sure why i got them, but i’m glad i did!! they weren’t fishy whatsoever, very fresh and soft, tender, and meaty. the tartar sauce was also very delicious for dipping. also got an order of onion rings which were also very fresh and tasty. they came with a white mystery sauce (i didn’t hear what it was) that was FANTASTIC. highly recommend the savanna dry cider if you’re a fan of a crisp not-too-sweet hard cider. the somer’s amber ale was also very good. most importantly they had good air conditioning inside, so a nice break...
