Stopped in for a drink with my husband Sunday afternoon. The hostess (now know it was the manager) was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Instead of seating us she proceeded to organize menus for a minute or two and once she was finished told us to follow her. We immediately felt uncomfortable being there. We sat on the patio which was beautiful. Our server was friendly and the drinks and white bean dip were good. During our drinks, the lady who had seated us (manager) came out and started arguing with our waitress about why the tables out there weren't set. The manager kept going on and on and she was directly behind us. She then started taking plates and cutlery out and slamming them on tables behind us to set the tables. It ruined the atmosphere to hear all of this arguing and slamming. We found all of these actions on her part to be extremely unprofessional. We needed our bill but couldn't get our server back for a very long time as a cruise ship had brought more guests in. There was a male server there that was very friendly and helpful and he was eventually able to help. Overall, the vibe and service was not good and we would not go back, which was disappointing because the view of the...
Read moreFresh off the plane and looking for a bite, we spotted The Pickled Onion right along the waterfront and couldn’t resist the view—turquoise water in full panorama. A table on the patio was ready immediately, so we settled in and let the island vibe kick off our trip.
I ordered the classic Bermudian fish sandwich, and it was outstanding. The bread was pillowy-soft, the fish perfectly flaky, and the whole sandwich held together without getting soggy. It came with a generous side of fries dusted in a punchy Cajun seasoning—so good I ate every last one. A cold Coke rounded everything out.
Service made the meal even better. The hostess greeted us with genuine warmth, chatted about cycling in Bermuda’s heat, and offered tips on sights worth pedaling to. Her friendliness set the tone for the rest of our stay.
Great view, zero wait, excellent food, and welcoming staff—The Pickled Onion is an easy recommendation, whether you’ve just landed or you’re a local looking for a reliable spot by the water. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m...
Read moreThis past June, my family and I ate lunch here after a bus tour of Bermuda and a visit to the Crystal Caves. The tour and the caves were great, but we were tired, hot, and hungry. I think we got one of the last tables outside on the 2nd floor porch. The view of the ocean was beautiful! I ordered the fish sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. It was very different from the fish sandwiches in New England. It was served on raisin bread with sliced tomato and a unique cole slaw. My husband loved his burger. My daughter liked her fries, but was not crazy about the chowder. I thought the chowder was good, but very different from the red, white, or clear chowders that we are accustomed to. We ate quickly, because we were trying to catch the next ferry back to the dockyard. I would have liked to have enjoyed a more leisurely lunch, but was grateful for the prompt service. We were only in Bermuda for 2 days, and wanted to see as much of it as we could. I would definitely go back to the Pickled Onion, and order another...
