Forget hotel & restaurant rooftop bars, this place literally tops them all. Located 1,299 feet above the Atlantic, perched atop Sugarloaf Mountain and offering killer views of Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana & Red Beach sections, sits this hidden gem-of-a-restaurant/bar.
ACCESS: A round trip ticket for cable cart access costs around $35 USD. Naturally the mountain is buzzing during the day but dies down after sunset.
LOCATION: The bar is located on the second mountain peak. After exiting the cart station, head downstairs towards the restrooms and veer left. You should hear pumping music.
ATMOSPHERE: The contemporary open-air restaurant clings to the cliff side and overlooks the Copacabana Beach, Red Beach and endless Atlantic. The main floor sports a bar and high tops. The lower deck features lounge chairs and more high tops. Smooth house/light techno tunes are spun by DJ. Super chill.
MENU: While they do serve food, most come for drinks only. We enjoyed beer on two separate occasions, once just before sunset and then at night.
SERVICE: Wait staff were friendly and easy to communicate with.
TIP: Try to pay with cash. My credit card got compromised while in Rio and I'm not sure where it happened, so this tip appears on all my reviews where I paid with it.
OVERALL: Amazing views, fair prices. As close to heaven as you'll get to while...
Read moreI have a huge emotional attachment for this place where I used to live and where in 2005 I learned to Kitesurf on this very same stretch of beach so I am a bit suspicious when writing a review. But I can honestly say that after moving abroad to the UK and working on the travel industry where fortunately I was able to visit many beach places like Tarifa ,Guincho ,Portimao , Paros , Malaga coast , all the Canary Islands and some places in Morocco mainly to Kitesurf but also to have some fun , every time I come back here I have this feeling that this spot during the wind season is one of the best ever and now with the development of this Beach Club it has it all. This time I had the luxurious help from Duco who is an IKO instructor and became in love with Rio (why not) and helped me to get thruogh my IKO Rider Certification .I was even able to see him teaching and I would not hesitate to put my son onto his hands .The place has a very good sea food , many beers to chose from seating in one of the lounges by the beach where you will see the beautiful locals on their natural habitat and amazing views of one of the best beaches in the world .I am already looking forward next year...
