Crazy Diamond — Restaurant in Sofia City

I’ve been to Crazy Diamond multiple times—always in pairs, whether catching up with a friend or hosting a business dinner—and it has quickly become my go-to spot for any occasion.

On cold Sofia evenings, the interior is pure warmth and coziness; yet when the weather’s nice, the outdoor garden transforms into a magical oasis under twinkling fairy lights, with a perfectly curated soundtrack and an intimate noise level that’s ideal for conversation.

Every visit starts with a warm welcome from the hostess, and the entire staff greets you with genuine smiles. They’re attentive without hovering, explain dishes clearly, and suggest the perfect wine pairing—even if, like me, you know nothing about wine!

The menu remains ever-fresh; every salad I’ve tried has been outstanding, especially the “Маринован айсберг” (marinated iceberg) salad, a crisp, flavorful masterpiece. Homemade meatballs and rotating specials showcase top-quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation, and even a simple glass of water tastes great here.

Avoid at all cost. Even if we somehow ignore the overpriced menu and, at best, completely average food, the service we had to endure was without a doubt the absolute worst in the city. The waitress was rude and inattentive. She forgot one main dish, two sides, and somehow managed to order an additional salad that we did not ask for, then had the nerve to throw a small tantrum and tell us we are paying for it. I have not seen less competent service in a decade plus. Not only did she forget 40% of our order, and acted rudely against us, she brought one of the main dishes, which was obviously pre-made and thrown in a microwave, before our salads, and before we got our forks. Another main dish arrived incomplete (missing some sides). More than half of the options for soft drinks were unavailable, which, considering the already small list of choices, added to the overall experience. Do not attend this place. Such service, and attitude, in combination with prices that ride at the high end of the city standards, are not to...

Pardon the pun but this is an undiscovered diamond in Sofia. The Chef manages to pull off decent vegetarian food that is wholesome and tasty as well as nailing the meat foodie who wanders in. In summer, main venue is the garden. Don’t be out off by the small sign on the road marking the entrance and then the narrow corridor to get to the back garden. Your view opens up to see the magnificent space under trees, greeted by the resident cat as you enjoy the surroundings. I had tarama caviar, followed by ribs. I had a small cucumber salad so that I can remain relatively healthy. Great service, frankly. All speak fluent English and I wasn’t waiting for anything. Just come to taste the food! Indeed a hidden diamond.

So, me being a pink Floyd fan, I asked why it was called crazy diamond. Response was due to song but hey didn’t know why (seems most people under 40 had never heard of pink Floyd!!) - the music playing doesn’t play and PF so here’s hoping...
