Pastorant — Restaurant in Sofia City

After reading glowing reviews, my girlfriend and I decided to try Pastorant. When we arrived and asked for a table for two, the host replied—rather brusquely—“Do you want to look at the menu first?” That felt odd, especially with several empty tables, but we asked to be seated.

Prices are on the high side, which we didn’t mind given the restaurant’s reputation and charming interior. We ordered two pastas: Cacio e Pepe and Paccheri with fresh shrimp and zucchini. The dishes arrived quickly, but the Paccheri had been swapped for spaghetti without any warning—our first let‑down.

The food itself was just OK. The Cacio e Pepe was dry and generously dusted with what tasted like Parmesan, though the dish should use only Pecorino Romano, giving it a distinctly different flavor. The wine list is solid, but most bottles aren’t available by the glass.

Service felt inconsistent: one waiter seemed stressed and uncommunicative; the younger server spent a lot of time on her phone, removed her apron mid‑shift, and spoke loudly near guests.

None of this would matter as much if the prices matched the experience, but Pastorant charges noticeably more than comparable spots. For that premium, I expected better food, smoother service, and clearer communication.

A hidden gem in the center of Sofia ❤️ My friend took me to this restaurant a while back, and I fell in love with the place from the moment I stepped in. The decoration is rustic, artistic, and very cozy. It smells like delicious Italian food, and you can feel your mouth starting to salivate. The lady spoke great English, which for some reason seems to be hard to find in Sofia, and she showed one of the best hospitality in a long while. Very welcoming and considerate. They offer a great selection of pasta and salads, and honestly, I dont think you can go wrong with anything you decide. The only downside was that we went in during busy hours during the season, when most people were on holiday break, so she was the only waitress. Even though we visited in-between meal times and didn't have to wait for a table or wait a lot for our meal to be served, the waiter made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. We understand that it was going to be a long evening, but that doesn't mean we deserved him being as nervous or anxious as he was. Especially seeing that he wasn't a recently hired young man. On top of that as we observed we weren't the only ones who got that treatment from him. The food wasn't bad, but neither was it outstanding and it was according to the expectations we got after reviewing the menu at home, however, the menu wasn't priced according to most of the pictures we saw on google maps.
