I will write this for everyone to know what to expect from this awful place. I booked a room from booking.com and the hotel policy was that I could pay with credit/debit card, except for the damage deposit which must have been in cash. When I arrived the hotel manager (a Maria ) was rude from the start. Then I asked if I should pay now or in the checkout and she said now and in cash. I showed her her own hotel policy and told her I would like to pay with card. She said this isn't possible. Then I asked her to give me some time to call booking.com to help us find a solution. The customer care person told me that she can't refuse to accept me paying with a card and she even called the hotel manager herself to tell her the same thing. Then the person from booking.com called me and told me that the hotel manager threatened to call the police and cancelled my reservation when we were trying to find a solution!!!! Not only did she not apologise for the terrible situation she put us in but she had the arrogance to throw threats at us! She obviously forgot for a moment that Bulgaria is in the EU and she cannot act as a 3rd world country boss. Anyway, we left that place and we strongly suggest everyone to...
Read moreWorst first impression in Sofia! We booked online and the host cancelled it last minute while we were already there at the property and inside the room. She (identified herself as Maria) insisted on paying cash for the entire reservation. We confirmed the booking before our travel and was even in touch with the property when they informed that we pay the damage deposit of BGN50 in cash. We said ok and asked if we can pay in EUR and they said yes. But lo and behold, once we were inside the room, they wanted cash not just for the deposit. She was not apologetic at all and with a straight face just said, our machine does not work so you have to pay in cash now. Without offering any alternative, she unilaterally cancelled the booking. I hope this kind of attitude is not common in Sofia. Worst first impression in a foreign country. Even Rwanda had better customer service!
Note: I just checked today her booking policies and it now reflects cash payments only. When we booked it, it said that they accept Euro/Mastercard, Visa, and cash and evidenced by our booking confirmation email from...
Read moreM Star Rooms in Sofia was a fantastic place to stay, especially from the perspective of a young traveler like myself. As a student traveling alone, I was looking for a place that was safe, comfortable, and well-located, and this hotel really met those criteria.
From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed. The manager, Maria, was incredibly kind and helpful, ensuring I had everything I needed. She took the time to answer my questions and even gave me great recommendations on where to go in the city, which was really valuable since I was exploring on my own.
The room was modern, very clean, and had everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The bed was great, and the overall atmosphere was peaceful. The location is also super—close to the center and well-connected, which makes getting around simple and enjoyable.
Do not get me wrong it was not my first time in the city but what I will remember is the attention which Maria gave to the details when I asked her about the citty and where I could find things which a young person would enjoy for my short...
