What a disappointment! I was very interested to try out Restaurant 62 since its inception – it has been hailed as Abbotsford’s top restaurant by many folks including some of my closest friends! A common comment to hear was “It’s a pricey place but well worth it!”. I’m not a stranger to very good food nor the prices that go with it. I’m happy to pay top dollar for genuinely well-prepared food, made from fine ingredients. Likewise, I’m happy to spend my money on great service from an engaged, informed server and other staff.
With these things in mind, I was very excited to enjoy my birthday meal with my close family at Restaurant 62.
The menu was small but the selections all sounded wonderful, they even offered my very favourite appetizer – pan seared scallops! I decided to order them, along with a Dungeness crab gnocchi starter for us all to share before we ordered our main courses. This was the beginning of our awful experience.
We were served 3 scallops (pretty standard for an appy) that were approximately ¾" - 1” in diameter and were significantly over cooked. Pan seared scallops should be at least twice this size and should always be cooked from fresh – I highly suspect these were frozen. Scallops are a very delicate ingredient and must be treated with care and respect. These abominations were, as Gordon Ramsay would say, “little rubber bullets”. It’s not easy to cook a tiny scallop, and virtually impossible if it’s been frozen, so I can’t blame the chef/cook completely but they shouldn’t be on the menu if they’re drastically sub-standard in the first place!
The gnocchi was very tasty and well prepared – it was all I ended up eating for my birthday meal other than a bite of my brother’s overcooked, dry chicken.
I raised issue with the scallops and let the server know that I was very disappointed and she simply stated “that’s too bad that you didn’t like them”. There was no offer of a re-fire or replacing the dish with anything else and the server seemed offended by my complaint. No manager came to the table to see if anything could be done, or to offer an apology for the clearly awful food. No chef came out either... except at the end of the meal when I asked to speak to a manager about our experience – then a chef came out and stood far away, with arms crossed, staring at me but not engaging at all.
Like I mentioned, I wound up not ordering a main for myself as I’d lost my appetite due to being upset over the poor food and worse service so I decided just to share a bit of the other’s food since they were fine with that. My mum had arctic char – it was a decently prepared and well-cooked dish. My brother had chicken which, as mentioned was overcooked and dry – the dish was very underwhelming in its presentation as well.
So, after a very disappointing experience, I asked to see the manager and she seemed very uninterested in the issues I mentioned and didn’t offer anything as far as a solution or an incentive to bring us back and show us a better side of Restaurant 62. This was the biggest let down of all for me – a good manager will make sure to apologize for a bad experience and will make an attempt to restore the customer’s faith in the business. If this had happened, I certainly wouldn’t be writing this negative review; I’d be much more likely to have written a positive one about how they turned around a failed experience.
There are far better choices, in Abbotsford, as far as excellent food, service and...
Read moreHappened to go for my anniversary at this restaurant that I've been eyeing for years. Not knowing what was happening, my husband booked and reserved her anniversary dinner, not one set. Oh, is it? A special dinner? Yeah, no, not one said. Anything or waiter, not the greatest You seemed a bit upset because I only give him $20 tip instead of 18% on my bill, which would have been $29. We ordered 2 caesars salad. My children of 8 years old could have cut that lettuce and put a 1000 croutons on top. There was no shredded parmesan cheese. It was not worth thirty four dollars $34 side plates I ordered 2 bowls of soup and one was delivered. He came by and said sorry. We sold the last one not asking if there was anything else I could offer you to replace it. Walked awayHe kept mentioning how busy he was and how everything from the drink. He forgot the lime. For a $200 meal, I could have went to a Greek restaurant and had the a shank of lamb with roasted potatoes, rice, Greek salad, zaziki and bread. I was not impressed with the food. I paid the bill and he was so miserable. Didn't even say good night, no Merry Christmas. Therefore, they need to actually look at their menu and have the chefs. Sit down and eat their own food, not sampling it. In the back because most of the food we sent back had food left over in the plate ? When I mentioned no parmesan cheese on the salad, he goes. Would you like me to get you some with somewhat of an attitude? When I asked for a lime, he goes, I better get it to you now cause I might forget. And then when I had to almost begged to get a second drink cause, he's not around. Hustling to make more money, you only get a tip if you're really good and this is not a 5 star restaurant. I don't know if they made their own stars be alert. Most people didn't really drink. They'd go and have a glass of water . Well that's the last time I go there. I hope all of you, other people go and experience Ancore in Langley, he's a true chef has a small little restaurant, and when he does a 3 course meal. There's only so many people that are invited to eat it and it's the best of the best. This restaurant needs to curb their menu the trout seemed so dill, and lime i had to switch it with my husband he endured the taste, but we were too afraid to actually send it back as the waiter wasn't very friendly. He was just in it for the money tips. But 1 day he will have to go out and pay his way and hopefully he gets a meal like I did tonight. That's...
Read moreWow, where do I start, I rarely ever leave a bad review even if I had a bad meal, but I need to in this case, in hope the management see it and improved or just to warn other to stay away. This past Friday I made a reservation for my wife's bday dinner at Restaurant 62, at 6pm, for us and the kids. We ordered drinks, which were fine, nothing special, however the food, the food was simply terrible, one of the worst meal I have ever had. We ordered for appy, the Humboldt Squid, Beef Carpaccio, for main the Rib Eye Steak and Halibat. The humboldt squid was way over torched, as I was eating it, I thought there was a gas leaked, I even asked my wife, it was bitter and tasteless except for the gassy, chemical smell assuming from the torched they used. The beef carpaccio was decent, however, you can tell they made way before hand and kept it in the fridge before serving, the meat in the middle of the plate was still partially frozen. The halibat that my wife had, was overcooked, the fish was dry and rubbery, and the worst for last, the rib eye steak, which I ordered medium rare, what came out and served to me was one of the worst, overly done piece of meat I have ever seen, I felt bad for the cow that got butchered, and wasted, the meat was mostly grey, through and through, needless to say, I sent it back, even the waitress was embarassed on having to served that, I was offered another steak, but declined, as I was already thoroughly dissappointed in how the evening turned out. This was not my first time at Resturant 62, I've dined there probably 5 ot 6 times before, from the old location to the new location, the last time will be my last time. I didn't leave a 1 star as I know most people reading review will ignored those, but it was a 1 out of 5 for me...
