My wife and I are new to Ajax and when we wanted to find a local pub to eat some good food and have some suds to unwind after a hard day we thought we found it at Magwyers Pub. The first impression was good, food was tasty and hot, beer was served cold, service was pleasant and atmosphere very nice. After our 6th or 7th time at the bar they seemed to remember us and all was good. We always noticed the same older gentleman behind the bar but waitresses seemed to change often but all this changed when we decided to come on a Saturday night. It was very busy and was near Christmas with a couple work parties happening, (understandable). We came in and sat down near the bar. As we sat the waitresses were buzzing around and had to wait a bit which is normal but after being ignored by the waitress the gentleman behind the bar noticed we were being not being served he finally came over with menus and helped us order beers. He promptly came back and asked us if we wanted to order food but asked for a few more minutes. After about 6 minutes we were ready to order but no waitress was willing to serve us. We had the menus closed and down on the table and just quietly sipped ours beers waiting. As time went on and the waitresses were not even making eye contact with me never even acknowledges us, never one said I will be with you in a moment.I started to fume inside. This continued until we finished our beer and even with glasses empty no one came to our attention. I walked up to the gentleman at the bar and told him I wanted to settle my bill for the two beers. The sad thing was he didn't even ask me why I was leaving hence the no eye contact. He simply told the waitress to handle the sale with my debit card. Of course I gave no tip, paid and left. I understand they were busy but we are customers too and not to even be acknowledge once by the waitresses is not good service etiquette and we felt larger paying customer parties were much more profitable and with larger tips were their priority. We will never enter our foot into their establishment again. I can tolerate a lot of things but being ignored or bad service is simply unacceptable for me to continue coming back. We have since then found another...
Read moreI have been to Magwyers before and came on Sunday with 5 other friends. The server came over took our drink orders I asked for the poutine with steak on it "she said it can only be done on specific days" which I told her I had gotten that before on an off day but she said no, so I said sure, it took 1 hour to get our food and it wasn't busy, and then when I reminded her the food came and it came cold which makes me believe that she didn't run the food and it was actually sitting there for quite some time. Didn't say anything, another server came and we asked for another order and my friend asked for the steak on top and he got the order served so now I'm thinking this server just didn't want to do it. And then finally, when it was time to pay the bill we realized my friend paid the entire bill earlier , and then when we re-ordered more food my other friend paid the balance, but we didn't know if they charged us twice for the entire bill and when I asked her to re-print the bill "which would solve all the problems" she said our system doesn't allow us to re-print its from the 80's ? I was lost for words didn't want to cause a scene and called the restaurant the next day and they still haven't gotten back to me. Very unprofessional and we are pending the outcome to see whether she charged us double or not, which I believe she did hence the hesitation for giving us...
Read moreI was super disappointed with this establishment. I unfortunately never got to try the food, but the service was sub par. We called in advance and asked if they had anything available. They said they don’t do reservations but they had room for 2 people and to come on over. We told them how long we would be (we drove from Oshawa). When we arrived, we waited 10 minutes in the lobby area for a waitress. They both ignored us at first and went in and out instead of speaking to us. Finally, we were told they did too many reservations and it was over an hour wait. Firstly, we were told they didn’t do reservations. Secondly, we were told on the phone there was availability and even told them how long we would be. Both of these things were inaccurate. So we drove from Oshawa for absolutely no reason, as they were fully booked. I know this isn’t their fault and we’re in a pandemic, but it’s ridiculous that they couldn’t be honest. It would’ve saved us an hour in total driving there and back. Also, they only had 2 servers on a Sunday (Fathers Day no less) working. Shame on them! The waitress we spoke to was extremely flustered and...
