I'm honestly left more confused by this place then anything. My partner and I came to eat here just after valentines day after seeing how highly rated it was. But it just did not live up to the hype. To begin with our meal cost us around $50 (which now looking back at the menu im pretty sure i was overcharged) and that was for 2 burgers a thing of fries and 2 milkshakes which I consider to be on the high end for a burger place, which is would have been fine with if the food was decent quality. But while the toppings, sauces, and bun on the burger were excellent the patties were abysmal despite what the menu claimed (being 100% natural) they were incredibly processed and spongey right about on the level you'd get from some random fundraiser out side of canadian tire. And it honestly just ruined the burger to the point my partner was so put off they couldnt even finish more than half of their burger, and with the exception of maybe McDonald's or harveys they were far worse than practically burger patty you could get from a fast food joint. Now I used to run a restaurant at a golf course about a year and a half ago so I can say the difference in price between a patty like this an actual decent one is around a dollar so it comes off as a weird bit of penny pinching at a giant cost to quality. And even if that single dollar somehow broke their margin I would have gladly paid an extra dollar a burger if it ment it the burger was vastly better. Then on the milkshakes I can't remember what I got but it was fine my partner however got the lucky charms milkshake which just tasted like soggy lucky charms except without any of marshmallow now. Now given that my milkshake was fine I'm assuming lucky charms was a bit of an anomaly on the menu and probably just shouldn't be on it. The fries were ok if a bit over cooked and the portion size on the large was solid (as it should be given that the cost of fries to a restaurant is so miniscule) The atmosphere of the place was a little strange they had and assortment of knick nacks and oddly fire works for sale, and normally I belive sketcher while still clean a restaurant is the better the food. Unfortunately this didn't hold true And The staff was friendly although looking at it new the owner is like weirdly passive aggressive in replying to reviews and frequently just replies with a boooo
So overall I just really can't recommend this place until at the very least they change their patties Boooo...
Read moreI had to come and write a review because I had a feeling and KNEW that the gentleman, dining at the same time that we were there, was going to come on and write a review of the fish and chips he sent back twice. I see my feeling was correct. 🤷🏻♀️
Anyhow, I’ve been to Drumheller many a time and had no idea Bernie and the Boys existed. Being in town with my girls this week I stumbled upon their restaurant while Googling and after reading many great reviews decided to try it for lunch with my kids.
The girl at the front counter who took our order was cheery and pleasant (she also handled the fish and chip complaint guy with patience and class I thought, both times) and she was patient with me too as I took in the huge menu to decide what I’d order for myself.
My kids are picky eaters, as kids can be, and both my girls loved their food today (fries, chicken nuggets and the grilled cheese) so already that’s a win win for me.
I myself tend to be pretty fussy about fries and absolutely loved the fries and gravy at Bernie’s. Well cooked, very flavorful in the seasoning and the gravy was to die for. We’d come back for the fries and gravy alone- really excellent.
My burger (regular size, no fancy toppings) was really good, seasoned well, hot and juicy. I’m not entirely convinced it wasn’t a pre-made frozen patty at one point though (even if it’s Bernie and the Boys making them ahead of time and freezing them), but for me that’s not a deal breaker. I enjoyed it, it was tasty and I’d certainly order it again.
The absolute biggest highlight of the meal (ok, tied with the fries and gravy) was the milkshake. My oldest daughter considers herself a milkshake connoisseur and she was blown away by the vanilla shake she ordered. You’ve definitely won her over for life.
My kids got a kick out of the decor on the inside as well, they thought it was really cool that it used to be a house. We will be...
Read moreWas hoping to be able to leave a better review. When I arrived I was super excited cause it's a very cute restaurant with loads of options. Decided to go with my usual order: A bacon cheeseburger Only pickles. The cashier/owner I'm assuming wrote down the correct thing on my receipt but thats not what I recieved. After waiting approx 30 mins I ended up getting to my van and realizing the burger had everything on it. Which is okay things happen. So I went back in as I dont like mayo so didn't want to just scoop everything off. I handed them my burger and they said they'll fix it. When I was handed back the burger I asked if it was remade or if it was just scraped of everything I didn't want. She said it's the same patty different bun. When I got back to my van I saw mayo still on the patty, a new top bun over the old one. O didnt go back in as that was already the second time i went in and the burger was already cold. I dont have any allergies to the ingredients i didnt want but if i did that wouldnt be a good thing in a circumstance like this...I paid 12.50$ for the burger, added a 10$ tip as well as the other stuff I purchased. Totalling 65$. For a 65$ order I don't think how they handled it was correct. I think my burger should've been fully remade. I won't be back unfortunately because of this small mistake on their customer service part. The patty itself was kind of dry but I will give an honest review stating. The pickles were good, bacon was good, all the freeze dried candy I purchased was good and the fries were...
