I had breakfast here, two eggs with sausages, cubed hashbrowns, and whole wheat toast......coffee of course as well. Eggs were ordered "over-medium" and they arrived slightly under.....not a deal breaker. The sausages were acceptably cooked, but a little cool to the touch......once again, not a deal breaker. The coffee was hot, and not terrible. Kinda hard to disappoint me with coffee as long as it isn't watery, burnt, or full of grounds. The disappointment was with the hash browns which were mushy as all get-out and barely browned. I suspect they are par-cooked before hand (a restaurant "standard operating procedure" when serving a large hashbrown that can take a long time to cook from raw on the flat top) which is absolutely fine, but takes an amount of skill to ensure the final product isn't overcooked. Or, the flat top they were grilled on was simply too cold to achieve a crisp texture outside while still maintaining an al dente tooth feel that makes a cubed hashbrown desirable to me. The bread was over-toasted to the point of burnt edges and an extremely dark body that was offered for my taste. I don't like soggy toast, and like burnt and soggy toast even less. The shining star would be the service. The wonderful lady that served me had an absolutely endearing cheery-ness that isn't the norm at 6:30am. Truely appreciated. In summary, I would eat here again if asked by someone else to join them for breakfast. I wouldn't be disappointed as I know what to expect and could alter the way I ordered to suit my taste ie: lightly toasted and buttered toast, slightly over medium eggs, etc.... But for a restaurant that would charge me over $15 for a standard breakfast with coffee ($20 even by the time I leave the server the tip she absolutely deserved) I don't feel I should have to. If you charge a premium price for a substandard product it will be difficult to get me to walk past the coffee shop next door for a...
Read moreWent there for breakfast this morning and can't say we were too impressed. Food was just "ok", kinda hard to mess up bacon, eggs, toast and hashbrowns isn't it? Problem was really the service. Now I understand covid was really hard on a lot of businesses however it would seem prices have been adjusted a fair bit upwards as well. Our tab was just shy of $67 for 3 of us which a few years ago was a pretty good chunk of change. My wife had originally suggested we just go grab some takeout from A and W and save some money but I wanted to treat them to a nice sit down relaxing breakfast so we figured we'd give Craig's a try. Now usually when one would go to a place like this, one would expect to be able to drink a fair amount of coffee, especially when the price is $3.75 for "bottomless cup" (as stated on the menu). Well our cups were far from bottomless. Initially they were only about 3/4 full, after about eating half my meal I asked for a refill as I had not been offered any and my server returned and again only filled my cup 3/4 full and my wife was lucky to get a 1/4 cup, I asked if she would mind toping it up a little more not realizing the pot was empty and she told me that she would have to get more from the back. The next time we saw her it was with our bill. Now I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or if management is just trying to save a couple of bucks but we noticed that no one seemed to be being offered refills on their coffee. Seriously when I get half a litre for $2 @ Tims or A&W, I'd expect a little more than the 150 mls I got here. Maybe Smitty's, Dennys or Phils would have been better options. But I usually am one to try and support the local guy but they need to remember things...
Read more2 starts...let me start off by saying this place has an excellent breakfast...Best in the area. My wife and I frequently vacation in the area and have been here quite a bit. I am giving it a low rating this time because we were really disappointed in the covid 19 protocols.
We came Sunday morning, and as usual the place is very busy. We parked and I went in to get our name on the waitlist...having no problem to wait our turn. The line was huge, stretching around the entrance of the restaurant and into the washroom corridor. I asked the hostess if I could add our name to the wait, thinking like most other places they would call.or text when its our turn, and we would wait in the car until then. Hostess informed me that there is no list, and that I would need to stand in that long line, squished up with everyone else until it was our turn. She said once we are down to one or two people in front of me, I would be able to fill out the covid contact tracing for, also doubling as a wait list.
We left instead and went somewhere in Banff.
Hoping to be able to come back though, would like to see a much better way to manage...
