Honestly the coffee I ordered was great but the service made my whole experience not worth it. I am a person of colour and also a person that visibly shows my religion by wearing a headscarf. The first waitress was very sweet and even recommended me her choice of drink. I asked her if she had creamer and she said the woman who will be making your iced coffee will give it to you. I waited for my iced coffee and when my order was ready, the woman making my order glanced at me and then set my drink down. I asked her for the creamer, she didn’t make eye contact and looked away and said “we don’t carry creamer” which was odd since I was told that she would give me creamer if I asked. I told her I was told you have creamer, again not making eye contact with me and dismissing me and said “no we don’t”. I honestly didn’t want to start an argument at 7:45am so I didn’t bother to say anything else even tho I wasn’t even being treated respectfully as a customer. I asked her if she had a straw for my iced coffee and yet again didn’t bother making eye contact with me, and said “no straw”. I said “no worries, have a great day” and she said nothing.I walked away to the side to sit down and drink my iced coffee and watched to see if maybe I wasn’t the only one being treated that way because everyone can have a bad day but unfortunately I was the only one being treated that way. 3 more customers that were behind me were treated with respect and eye contact but I wasn’t. How unfortunate that we live in this time and yet racism...
Read moreI was buying groceries so I asked my girlfriend to grab me an espresso blend (traditional/darker roast profile) as I had guests who aren’t as adventurous as I am and I wanted to make milk drinks for them.
Let me preface what I’m about to say by stating that too many people in specialty coffee take themselves far too seriously, come across snobby and actively dissuade people from engaging in the hobby.
Anyway my girlfriend leaves the store with the most expensive single origin in the store, telling me that the male server made her feel stupid for asking for a very normal thing.
So I went right back in to the store and located a bag labelled “blend” specifically for espresso. Fortunately the two ladies on the bar were accommodating and handled the exchange for me.
Why was my girlfriend not steered in the direction of the obvious choice?
Why did she leave with a $26 bag of coffee that wasn’t what she asked for, when there was an obvious choice right there for $19?
Why did she leave with a single origin catuai instead of an espresso blend for milk drinks?
I buy specialty all over the place and this has to be one of the lamest interactions I’ve ever heard of, fortunately the people I interacted with when I went for the exchange were pretty nice.
Beans are pretty good here though so overall place is a solid roaster no complaints...
Read moreHad a terrible experience with our last visit to Eclipse. Normally we enjoy the coffee there and try to make a stop while in Canmore, but we don’t think we will be returning customers ever again. This time, we were flat out refused service because we did not show Vax/ recent test information. We made it clear that we would like to just pick up a coffee to-go, knowing the new restrictions. Eclipse seems to go above and beyond the guidelines to discriminate against people who they obviously don’t want as customers. 90% of other businesses we visited were more than happy to have us attend and order out. There is zero reason why Eclipse can not serve us to-go beverages/mechanize if we can cross the street and do so without hassle for a coffee at Blondies, which is what we did.
I realize these times are different and respect everyone’s efforts to stay safe, but I’m not impressed with the way they are conducting their business. Also, really adds to the “maturity” of the owner to reply to similar google reviews citing political party and Alberta health website links with no...
