Love this place. Delicious creative variations of timeless classics plus solid reliable staples. The crab cakes for example are wonderful - other places seem to have trouble maintaining the balance of a good savory filling with a nice crunchy shell. Usually they come out dry and disappointing. Everything we tried here was cooked as it should be. Try a variety of appies to share verses 1 main dish per person is our suggestion. Give yourselves a mix of the fun. It will cost you abit more and you might have leftovers but the leftovers will still tasty the next day. The decor is intimate and cosy with just enough modern touches to keep it from feeling dated. The parking lot is small but sufficient. Staff is lovely, knowledgeable, personable and most importantly efficient. Good selection of wines, beers and cocktails to top off your meal. Date night or a visit with friends, this place is perfect. We also like that this restaurant is not on main street downtown so coming and going is easy and stressfree.

Don't get me wrong, I always tip 15-20% depending on the service. But this mandatory 18% is not a tip, it's a race tax. Tips should be voluntarily regardless of where you come from. The word is spreading fast across social media. Edit: From the owner's response: "As explained to you in person, when you leave $0 the server must pay out of pocket to tip the kitchen and others just for the pleasure of serving you." Having the server paying the kitchen from their own pocket regardless if they are tipped or not is even more bizarre than charging the tip instead of leaving it to the customer to decide. How about paying your employees from the restaurant's earnings and let the customers decide whatever they want to tip without pressuring them? Most restaurants just put a note (not a charge) in the receipt with SUGGESTED tip and customers manually add a tip to the receipt before leaving. This is insane.

Caution to potential patrons!! Just a heads up for anyone dining here, the menu states an 18% gratuity for parties of 7 or more, split checks, and international guests. It seems to be up to their discretion to decide who is an 'international guest,' which could easily lead to unfair treatment. This practice is deeply concerning and suggests a discriminatory policy based on ethnicity and national origin, undermining the principle of equality among all customers. Such treatment is unacceptable and warrants immediate attention and rectification by the management. Note, our party of three was charged 18% simply because we are Asian, and it was assumed we were 'international guests.'

We came to the Sage Bistro around 2 pm, place was less than half-empty, but it took approximately 25 minutes of wait to get our order. Beef burger was was kind OK, but dry and absolutely not impressive for a $20 price tag. The steak sandwich was ordered medium-well, came as a small but think; sure thing - I cut a piece and it was lot of pink inside. It was not even cooked to medium, not to mention medium-well.Waitress was trying to argue with me about cooking steaks, but I had to stop her and ask to put steak on a grill again. After another ten minutes or so, waitress brought my plate back. No cutlery - my knife and fork are gone. Had to call her to the table to ask for. The piece of steak, which I cut initially is gone. I cut another piece. Steak inside is still pink, but outside all burned to the ashes. I said to myself that I will cut ant eat outside pieces and leave pink on the plate. Not a big deal. Cut first piece, trying to chew it: meat is hard, tasted as it was not on a grill, but in crematorium. Two seconds in process, waitress came to the table and asked if steak is good now ? I'm trying to focus on a piece in my mouth and ignore waitress, as there is not simple answer to her question. Waitress is still by my side and repeating her question, demanding an answer. Taste of ashes, afraid to choke, I had to spite out piece on a plate and explain to her that it was not a good moment to demand an answer. No, steak still pink inside and looks like old chunk of coal outside. After an hour inside, left without eating a piece, was charged a full price.

P.S. Steak is my favorite menu item - I ordering it often. I do cook it it home. And I do have professional experience in this area. P.S.S. 'Bistro' means...

My family and I usually love this place, and they have always been very welcoming and supportive of my service dog. Because of their friendly atmosphere, we decided to bring the whole family and book a reservation two weeks in advance for their patio seating in order to bring the family dogs as well. The manager assured us that they could accommodate our party of 9, and all was well. The day we arrived, we were very tired from hiking and were very excited for our meal. Unfortunately, our server was absolutely rude, and having a bit of a mental breakdown. She told us she wasn’t ready for the reservation, and we told her it was okay and we could wait so she could have time to put things together. Keep in mind the place was empty and had one couple eating. We asked about the patio, and she told us she could absolutely not serve us because of the smoke, (there was none) and we weren’t allowed to sit there. We asked to sit by the window to watch the dogs, she said no as well. When my mom told her we were going to have to check with the family if they still wanted to eat there because we needed to watch the dogs on a 25+ degree day. This is when she snapped. She lost it, telling us she just moved tables for our reservation and how we needed to figure out what we were doing, even though she wasn’t ready for our party. We left immediately. I felt so disappointed in this place, as we used to love it, but my family wanted a fun relaxing dinner, not one where the waitress wouldn’t be able to handle our group. On top of that, we reached out to the manager about the incident and he never responded. I highly recommend hiring staff that welcome customers, and can remain calm. I recommend the food, but not...

A very disappointing experience. First, we went to the wine bar upstairs. The service was slow - it took a long time for the waiter to finally come to our table. And when he did, he knew very little about the restaurarnt. We asked him about the Charcuterie option. He didn't know how it worked - if the price was for one meat, or for more. He said there might be cheese included - or maybe two or three cheeses - or maybe none. He wasn't sure. And he didn't offer to find out. Frustrated, we went downstairs. We asked about the special, but apparantely the cook had forgot about it that night. It was Monday, and the special was supposed to be a free appie or dessert - we had assumed it was for every entree - but apparantly this was not the case, and since the cook had forgotten there was supposed to be a special, we were never offered an appie or desert.. However, salmon was on the menu as a special (presumable a different one?) so we ordered that. It was supposed to come with lentils. But when we got it, it came with polenta instead. The waitress said this was because no one liked the lentils, and everyone was just leaving them on their plates. Although I am not sure how many people did this, as we were eating early - at six o'clock. The meals were okay, but not worth the price, and the service was atrocious. Not an experience I would want to repeat...
