I recently dined at The Lakeside Chophouse, and while the experience offered moments of culinary delight, there were a few areas that left me with mixed feelings. From start to finish, the menu promised a journey through various flavours, yet the execution was not without its challenges. The Chophouse Caesar Salad presented a medley of textures and flavours that I appreciated. Crisp romaine lettuce, parmesan shavings, and roasted garlic added layers of depth to the dish. However, at $18, the price felt slightly steep for what was ultimately a familiar composition. It was an ordinary caesar salad. Moving on to the mains, the Calamari was a standout, showcasing culinary finesse. The combination of perfectly cooked calamari, pickled Fresnos, sliced green onions, and Sambal aioli was a delightful play of contrasts that delighted my taste buds. This dish surprisingly had a very nice kick. Really enjoyed this dish. The Mumbai Butter Chicken brought a rich, aromatic curry to the table, paired with well-prepared garlic naan and fragrant jasmine rice. However, the texture was a little mushy for my liking. The highlight of the evening, the New York Striploin, was a tantalizing piece of meat. The well-marbled 10-ounce cut was cooked to perfection, delivering on flavour and tenderness. Regrettably, the slow pacing issue persisted, impacting the overall enjoyment of the meal. The Cod and Chips - The local craft beer-battered cod was a delightful twist on a classic, and the sea salt fries were seasoned to perfection. However, I found the batter to be too thick for my liking as well. I ended up just taking the batter off and eating the fish. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the water and mountain. The food is quite good as well. Just the service was very slow. I heard the servers constantly apologizing for the long wait for their food.

Calamari Batter was a little thick and crusty and a tad on the oily side. But calamari was tender. Served fresh. Suprised by the heat in the batter. Doesn't overwhelm the flavour but it remains on palate for a while. Complimented by the aioli sauce. Salmon grossly overcooked and dry There was no seasoning on the salmon. Other than the charcoal on the salmon. The salmon was burned to a crisp on o e side. Staff offered to serve another salmon portion but centre came undercooked. Salad was very citrusy... would have loved them to cut the acidity with something.... Broccolini overcooked and limp. Veggies lacking in seasoning. Steamed plain. Would be fine if the brocollini wasn't Cooked bitter. Mashed potatoes were heavy and almost tasted like instant mashed potato. Saving grace was the short rib. Was tender and flavourful. Pulled apart easily. Korean lettuce wraps. Confusing. Was expecting sweet and sour. But only the dish to be sour. Missing the sweet accent. Veggies were overcooked again. Green peppers made for a bitter aftertaste. Chicken was not cooked fresh. Precooked and reheated. Would not visit again. Apple pie - made by the local Mennonite community. Light and flavourful and not overwhelmingly sweet. Pairs nicely with the vanilla ice cream. Wish there was more filling! Service was good. Manager and servers offered replacement salmon and comp. Dessert. Timely service despite a full dining hall and short staff.  Ambiance is also very nice and pleasing. Sadly I go to restaurants for good food. This restaurant did not make the cut. Especially for the pricing of the dishes.

I really don’t like to leave negative reviews but have decided to for this restaurant because I was so shocked and disappointed by the awful service. The overall food quality and value left a lot to be desired too. If you’re going to offer a $236 tomahawk on your menu then you must be able to back that up with innovation and execution of every other dish on your menu too.

If all you are looking for is atmosphere then by all means sit on this patio, have some drinks, it’s the nicest in Waterton with views of the lake and mountains.

Sadly for us the patio was the only hi-light of of the evening. We sat patiently while wait-staff buzzed about serving newly seated patrons quickly, ignoring/avoiding our table. Eventually our server came with water and menus, by the time she returned to take our orders a few tables seated after us had been served and were almost done eating!! We even heard the table next to us had a mix up in the kitchen and that server emphatically with grand apology remedied the situation quickly. Once we ordered our food we proceeded to wait for over an hour! Watching several more tables of families and couples sit, order and eat! Our server had not returned to us once. It was obvious she had forgotten about us so we went in search of her and was told a manager would come to our table… but never did!!! When the server did eventually return we asked about our food and she said “there was a really big table inside that was ahead of you so the kitchen is now getting to your food”!!!!!???? Whaaaaat?! Just now?!! 1 hour AFTER we ordered???!! No apology was offered. Just a lame excuse… actually a lie because we watched 6 other tables seated after us get food and eat! It was obvious it was her negligence we didn’t have food but she didn’t want to admit it?!! I have never seen such a thing!! A whoopsie would have been better than the lie she flopped down on us! At this point we considered leaving but knew that the smoke house across the street had already closed. So we hunkered down for another wait.

At this point, we’ve now waited about 1.5hrs and food has finally arrived. It was definitely NOT worth the wait. The execution did not live up to the vibe of its modern menu and atmosphere. The poke bowl was dry and lacked flavour, the fish was also fishy, ew, but our server never returned to ask how it was left uneaten. The fish and chips looked great, but was over battered and over cooked (burnt) to the point it crumbled on the fork. The kungpoa bowl was just soy sauce stir fried vegetables with chunks of precooked chicken slices, and probably the best of all the dishes. The baked Brie was ok but the “crostini” was half toasted and half soggy and looked like wonder bread. I ordered the Szechwan chicken wraps… no comment.

Had our food arrived and been amazing we would have completely forgiven the lack of service and I wouldn’t be spending my time writing this review! We were starving and eager to dive in but the food was not good. It was edible but not what we were expecting for the price. Our bill came, it was a cool $180. Our plates sat half eaten and the server cleared them with no comment or inquiry about the food, she just handed us the credit machine and walked...

GREAT VIEWS, but unfortunately everything else was lacking! My mother and I decided to go here because this restaurant was the best rated in Waterton. We were looking for a good lunch with a luxury twist without breaking the bank. Once we looked at the menu outside, we noticed that the food was the most expensive in town! We were ultimately led in due to the attractive dining room. Once we sat down, we were anticipating a culinary experience that would be memorable and suiting for our first time in Waterton. BOY we miscalculated. Simple alcoholic drinks were 2x-3x more expensive than normal for no reason, so we decided to settle for soft drinks. We ordered the Calamari to start. It was comprised of 50% calamari, 25% green onions and peppers and 25% breading. Was tasty but lacking protein for the price we paid. My mom settled for the Cesar salad with chicken and I got the slaughter burger. My moms chicken looked like it was previously frozen and cooked, held in a heated container and grilled for 2 minutes to looked like it was fresh (dry due to all the cooking and sides were rock hard). My slaughter house burger was not a burger but rather a beef dip sandwich. The dip immediately hit me with its pungent smell of grease and old meat. Pretty sure it was from a package. The sandwich tasted more tolerable by itself rather than using the greasy dip. Thats not all though! Service was okay and nothing memorable. Bathrooms were gross! Mold and sagging ceiling from water damage in the men’s bathroom, not proper plumbing from the urinals and was leaking on the ground, did not look or smell well cared for. After the experience, my mom told me that the women’s washroom was not very nice either, stall doors didn’t even work properly regarding the locking mechanism. Additionally, the business expected a mandatory tip from the customers between 18-20%. Overall the meal was close too $100 with a substantial tip for not great food, gross facilities and shaky service. Seems like they have to hire more servers because we didn’t have enough service, and frankly, seemed like no one did. Overall, don't be fooled by the nice dining room or view. Check the washrooms first and then decide if you want to proceed further (at your own risk) with the...

I’m absolutely appalled by my experience here today. 2 Dijon Salmon, 2 braised short ribs. The salmon was over cooked, so dry it was literally falling apart before it got to the table. Where I draw the line is HAIR. It literally looked like shavings, mixed in the gravy of the short ribs. DISGUSTING. At this point we were all very put off, as all of our meals had gravy and politely asked our meals be taken away.

This is where we were met by an aggressive manager, Adam. He proceeded to tell us that the salmon was perfectly cooked, and that just because there was hair in one of the short ribs gravy, doesn’t mean that there is hair in mine and basically it’s my fault if I’m too disgusted to eat it. Oh and all the chefs in the back are females with long hair so it couldn’t have possibly come from them.(insinuating we put the hair in the food that was pretty much untouched???) He continuously was trying to start an argument and a scene. Even mocking us, saying “Oh I can ask the executive chef if he has the time to fly all the way out here to meet with you.” We all work in the restaurant industry, we respectfully asked MANY times to deal with it inside, away from customers, OR for them to just bring our bill so we could leave.

He begins to yell at us IN FRONT of guests. Saying “I DON’T THINK WE ARE DONE HERE” refusing to let us leave, trying to start a fight with us. Appalled, embarrassed and disgusted is the only words I have left. Don’t eat here and god forbid if you do, I hope you don’t have to deal with Adam or any of the angry egotistical managers here. Worst experience I’ve ever had

~

I was not intoxicated nor was I escorted out by the rcmp. This is a fabrication. The argument was started by the manager who refused to let us leave multiple times. However I respect that the owner has since been willing to admit the situation was handled distastefully. The food that was sent back WAS taken off the bill, albeit still very upsetting that only 2 of our 5 party members actually ate. From my experience my review is accurate and truthful so in good conscience, I cannot retract it. Our server was very nice, and I appreciate his service and kindness towards...
