Everything seemed like it was going to be an enjoyable experience at Specks today. Quaint small place, simple breakfast menu and I was seated quickly. I ordered the breakfast special, standard bacon and eggs with home fries. The coffee was good, the meal took a lil longer than expected but I was in no hurry and I was busy tweeting anyways. Then it happened. The waitress, who was none too friendly from the start brought my plate. I was in the middle of reading a tweet, said thanks and took my fork to pick up a small homefry. When it hit my mouth the pain was instant. I now have a second degree burn on my tongue, the room of my mouth and my left cheek. I asked my waitress who was 5 feet away for ice water. She ignored me, I repeated louder I needed ice water. About a minute later I got a glass with attitude. Started cutting the potatoes open and they were steaming piping hot on the inside, even hotter than the outside.
Well I guess my waitress was none too happy with me because she spent the rest of my meal ignoring me. I had to pull a different waitress over to advise what had happened. I did so mainly because if they were serving literally blistering hot homefries to people they should warn them or someone should tell the cook to let them cool 2-3 minutes before dropping them in front of an unsuspecting customer. This waitress was very apologetic. I told her I wasn't mad and thanked her for taking a moment to talk to me. My original waitress never said another word to me, even as I stood up and left saying thank you, leaving a 30% tip cuz that's just me. So as I was driving to my next appointment I started wondering how those potatoes got so hot. They weren't crispy or brown or anything definitely not burnt. That's when it occurred to me there was no way they came that hot off the grill, they must have been put in the microwave. I'm giving one star to this restaurant partially because they microwaved my potatoes to a dangerous temperature but mainly because of the way I was treated when I spoke up about it. I will...

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm and friendly smiles that set the tone for the perfect breakfast dining experience. I found them to have generous portions that will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites and you won't be disappointed. The ingredients are fresh, as were the flavours. What I found really set Specks apart is the traditional diner vibe that permeates the entire restaurant. From the friendly and attentive service to the traditional menu, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time to a simpler, more wholesome era. I even stumbled across a recipe box that was shelf decor and was loaded with old time recipes that I took photos of to try myself. It's the perfect place to start your day, catch up with friends, or simply relax and enjoy a delicious meal. Overall, I can't recommend Specks enough. My first impression was the restaurant was quaint...service was good.....but was NOT HAPPY when I let the waitress know that there was a chicken bone in my hot chicken sandwich (in a calm quiet manner as to not bring attention).....the waitress said well you know it's real chicken (in a joking yet condescending manner)....then after a short pause she said she would show the cook.......and nothing was said or done for me.....luckily I didn't choke on the bone.....I will not be recommending this establishment to anyone in the future....and that is horrible as I always love going to the family style restaurants......shame on the waitress...
