My recent visit to Bugaboos was unfortunately marred by an unwelcoming encounter with the owner, Frank, raising concerns about both service quality and the atmosphere. As the only Asian patron in the restaurant, I couldn't help but feel that my experience was further impacted by what seemed like racial bias.
Upon entering the restaurant in the ski resort village, I ordered two coffees and two sandwiches while waiting for my kid's ski camp. The food quality was, at best, mediocre, and the prices were on the higher side, which is somewhat expected in a tourist destination. However, what truly disappointed me was the treatment I received from the owner.
As I finished my meal and settled in to relax with a book, Frank approached me with an abrupt request to leave. His initial tone, "Are you all done? Will you leave?" was not only impolite but left me questioning whether my ethnicity played a role in his demeanor.
When I explained that I had ordered two drinks and two sandwiches, Frank insisted on enforcing a rigid 30-minute time limit for patrons, irrespective of their order quantities. This inflexible policy seemed arbitrary and only heightened my discomfort, especially considering I was the sole diner at the time.
Moreover, when I offered to order more items to extend my stay, Frank dismissively asserted that I still needed to leave. The apparent prioritization of table turnover over customer satisfaction left a sour taste in my mouth.
The overall quality of service, coupled with what felt like a discriminatory undertone, significantly impacted my perception of Bugaboos. The food, in my opinion, was subpar, and the atmosphere was tainted by an uncomfortable encounter with the owner.
In conclusion, my experience at Bugaboos was far from satisfactory, and I would caution others, especially those from diverse backgrounds, about potential biases in the treatment they may receive. Improved customer service policies and a more inclusive approach would undoubtedly enhance the overall dining experience at this...
Read moreLovely cafe with great service and atmosphere right next to our accommodations at Silver Star so my friends and I ventured in for a cappucino. I asked for a decaf cappuccino as I have an extreme sensitivity to caffeine but either I was given a regular capp or there is a trace of caffeine in their decaf coffee as I had a reaction that lasted the better part of 24 hours. I made a point to go back to the cafe the next morning to pass on what had happened to me and to ask that for future clients, the staff make a real effort to not have it happen to anyone else again. I also asked if I could be reimbursed for my day of skiing as I had the last day of my 3 day ski pass and was not able to use it. The young man I spoke with said he’d speak with the manager and get back to me. The owner called me at the end of the day, apologized profusely and asked if he could meet me in person to reimburse the ski pass money. I met the owner in the lobby of our hotel, who had money to reimburse me completely for my lost day of skiing, plus 2 croissants for my husband and myself. He was absolutely genuinely upset for what I had gone through and couldn’t have been more accommodating. I was greatly impressed with that kind of integrity and Bugaboos is going to be my choice of cafe when I return to Silver Star. ...

I love Bugaboos, I visit quite often and the service and staff are always fantastic, the pastries and food are super fresh and delicious. The coffee however is very inconsistent. Some days my order is good, some days... It's not great. I have tipped it away once, the espresso burnt and the milk too hot. I just wish it was a little more consistent with the quality of my latte! I love supporting local, I love coffee and I just want to see this place keep doing well so just wanted leave some...
