Okay food, terrible service.
I don't normal leave negative reviews for a restaurant when I have a bad experience I just don't go back, but when a waiter who wasn't even my server (I think he was the owner but he was serving tables) comes running out of the restaurant (we were on the patio) yelling at me because I didn't leave a tip that's crossing a line. So now I will explain how bad your service was that lead to me and my fiancé not leaving a tip.
For starters we ordered the Garlic Pan bread without cheese as an appetizer. We specially ordered it without cheese because with cheese was an extra $3 we didn't feel was worth it. When our Pan bread arrived it had cheese on it, we were both so hungry we decided to hell with it we won't complain and just eat it because we didn't want to wait for another one to come out.
Next when ordering our main dishes we noticed the menu didn't mention anything about side dishes so I asked the waiter about them, how many did we get and what were our options. The waiter said the side dishes were the same for all entrées and began listing options "fries and onion rings, mashed potato and poutine etc. poutine costs extra" he had listed everything in pairs which made me believe we got the choice of two sides so I ordered fries and onion rings and my fiancé got mashed potatoes. I was charged for an extra side for the onion rings and there was an extra charge for my fiancés mashed potatoes. These charges should have been explained when we asked about sides and ordered them.
Next when our entrées arrived we each ordered a cocktail and asked for refills of our current drinks. The waiter returned quickly because the bartender didn't know how to make my fiancés drink a Vodka Bomb (fairly common drink but okay) so my fiancé explained what it was and the waiter explained we would have to pay for the can of red bull so she got a different cocktail. He returned shortly with the cocktails but not our other refills on water, we politely reminded him again but they never arrived, so we ate our whole lunch with only our cocktails as drinks. The next problem with the drinks was when the bill came, my fiancés drink had an extra $2 charge for "chucksize" her drink was the same size as mine and she never asked for a double shot so why the extra charge?
With this poor service and mistakes leading to us getting $12 in extra charges, we decided we weren't going to leave a tip because tips are for when you provide good service to your customers. This lead to the highly inappropriate behavior of the other waiter (possible owner/manger). He came rushing out of the restaurant as we were leaving and right in the middle of a packed patio he began to shout at us for not leaving a tip saying "what the hell you didn't leave a tip, service isn't free you know, your costing me money now I'm gonna have to pay the kitchen staff out of my own pocket" I politely replied "Tips are for good service we were not happy with the service we received" he retaliated by shouting at us "Don't ever come back" and began to storm back into the restaurant I called back to him saying "Don't worry we won't". With the entire patio staring at us I simply said to the crowd "mistakes with our food were made and we never got our drinks refilled". We then left.
Me and my fiancé have eaten at other Chuck's Roadhouse locations in Ontario and never had any issues with them. It is very disappointing we were treated so poorly at...
Read moreI own a restaurant and understand that reviews are very important to any restaurants success. I very rarely have bad experiences when dining out and try to avoid writing bad reviews but I feel this restaurant was not accepting responsibility for their miscommunication.
My mother dined here before and wanted to celebrate her birthday here. I had suggested The Keg but she insisted here so my two sons, wife, and myself took her to celebrate her birthday. My first reaction was the prices were really cheap and how could they charge so little.
We had a nice waitress. I believe she was new. My son and myself wanted to upgrade the fries in our meals to mash potatoes and gravy. We requested the substitution and the waitress said it would be extra. I asked how much and she said she wasn’t sure. Which is fine so we ordered it. But I expected to be told the price when she found out. I tracked down the manager and she told me an extra $1.50.
When the manager brought the food out there was mash potatoes but no gravy. I asked where’s the gravy and she said that’s extra as well. I told her that wasn’t communicated when I ordered mash potatoes and gravy. She quickly responded “it says in the menu”.
When my mothers roast beef dinner came out it didn’t have horse radish. I asked a different waitress for horse radish. She said that’s extra. We were all completely surprised. Horse radish is included everywhere with roast beef dinners plus when my mother attended previously it was included as well. We stated all of this and the waitress rudely said “I don’t make the rules. It’s in the menu”.
“It’s in the menu” seems to be their go-to when there’s a problem. If I ask the waitress a question upon ordering like “Can I upgrade to mash potatoes and gravy”. I expect to be told everything. For example, mash potatoes and gravy are two separate charges and how much for each. Why should I have to double check the menu to make sure she told me correctly?
I didn’t bother to tell the staff that it was my mothers birthday as I expected there to be an extra fee for that as well.
At the end of the meal I explained to our waitress that I was disappointed with the miscommunication and she was very apologetic. Out of everyone there she was the one that made the mistake but also the only one that was taking responsibility and not on the defensive the entire time. I was satisfied with our conversation as people do make mistakes and was going to leave the standard 15-20% tip. Then I checked over the bill and there was an “Honesty and Goodness” fee. I didn’t think the service there was honest or good with the hidden fees, hidden tip, and rude responses so I left a couple bucks and got out of there. I understand why they are the way they are because there is little room for error with the prices they charge. They can’t comp anything or take responsibility for anything or it becomes a loss for them. They would also get tipped more if they removed the “Honesty and Goodness” fee. I wouldn’t even be writing this bad review right now if that didn’t exist.
Overall the food was not good and service was poor. I would compare this restaurant to a budget friendly Swiss Chalet. The prices are cheap but you get what you pay for. I will not...
Read moreIf I could honestly review this horrible "restaurant", I would give it ZERO stars because it lacks the characteristics that ANY restaurant should have, good service and good food.
For starters, my family and I arrived at a busy time in the evening and were told we would be put on a "wait list" even though we were the only people waiting in that moment. This was fine for the first 10 minutes until another family comes in and gets seated immediately without ANY hesitation. This is extremely diabolical seeing as we were put on a so-called "wait list" when a family that came AFTER us was seated before we could even be brought to a table. I thought that alone was bad service, but that was just the beginning of a horrible night out.
After 15 mins we were finally directed to a booth that was not even cleaned/ready for customers to eat at. Therefore, yet MORE waiting occurred, this time we had to wait for 2 more servers to clean the table for us while we stood up in the middle of the restaurant.
After what felt like decades, we were seated and proceeded to order our food. This process was quick so I was hoping that maybe it was a good sign that our food would come quick as well but I was WRONG. We sat in that freaking booth for 1 WHOLE HOUR with absolutely NO reassurance that our order would be coming soon. We asked the waitress 2 times, when our food would be coming and both times she said it would be a couple of minutes which turned into an hour.
Visually, the food was presented nicely. However, biting into a cold steak after waiting all that time was the BIGGEST disappointment I have ever felt in a restaurant. My steak was cold, unseasoned and definitely not medium rare (as I had ordered). The lobster tail that accompanied my steak was equivalent to the size of a prawn tail. At this point, I am so disappointed and unhappy with my service and my meal that I have come to the conclusion that this is the first and last time I am ever setting foot in a "Chuck's Roadhouse".
When receiving our bill, we noticed a extra 3% fee attached to our receipt. I believe that this fee is undeserved and should not be mandatory for customers to pay because not only was my food not up to par with any of my expectations but I was also forced to pay an extra fee for mediocre food. The menu should just include the 3% in the final price printed on the menu to avoid having to explain that fee to all customers that ask about it.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed with my visit to Chuck's Roadhouse so I highly recommend anyone thinking of coming here to stay far away from this franchise and to never set foot in any Chuck's Roadhouse locations unless you want to be...
