Have been going to this location for more than 10 years. The ownership has changed a number of times but the food portion and quality has always been the same.
Looks like some new owners but not 100% sure maybe it's the corporate company now dictating more how things are being run.
We ordered from them a few months ago and when I go home and opened the bag the box was only half filled where it used to be overflowing.
Decided to order again today they asked if I wanted a full order and I said yes.
I ordered a halibut and chips and a haddock and chips for a total just over $41.
I got the bag to the car decided to look and again a half filled box. I went back in and questioned why the portion was so much smaller and was told it's the same they just now use a bigger box. I said I ordered prior to the new box and said it was half filled. I was told they can't control the kitchen and if I had an issue I should call corporate.
Although I'll be sending an email to corporate in addition to this review I want everyone to know I'll never go back.
There are other places to get fish and chips and offer better value.
I have attached pictures showing what is now concerned a full dinner portion.
I'm sure there are others that feel the same way. I know things have gotten more expensive but increasing prices and offering less that what I got before is not acceptable especially when what they are skimping on are the chips.
At this point I would have to say you no longer get what you pay for and the local staff don't seem to care as they just refer you to the corporate office.
Update: Email was sent to corporate using feedback@halibuthouse.ca and the email was returned as undeliverable. I guess the stores don't want to deal with customers and even corporate has decided it's not worth dealing...
Read more✨ A classic done right — crispy, golden, and full of comfort. Halibut House Aurora delivers fish & chips that feel like home.
We started with the Grilled Halibut, which was a refreshing surprise — beautifully seasoned, tender inside with charred edges, served alongside thick-cut chips and a fresh garden salad. The Italian dressing added just the right tang to balance the richness of the fish.
Next up: the Fish Taco. Don’t let the size fool you — this one’s a flavour bomb. A soft tortilla cradled a crisp piece of halibut, topped with creamy slaw and a drizzle of spicy aioli. Zesty, crunchy, and gone in two bites.
The Halibut & Chips combos were the star of the show. That batter? Light and crispy without being greasy. The halibut inside was thick, juicy, and flaky — everything you want from classic fish and chips. Paired with coleslaw, it made for a comforting, balanced meal.
The shrimp were perfectly done — lightly battered with a juicy snap inside. They’re ideal as a side or a snack while you wait (but honestly, you’ll want a full order).
A special shoutout goes out to Min, Foster, and Ivy for ensuring a seamless dining experience with delicious cooking and serving!
Halibut House doesn’t mess around with frills. It’s about consistency, portion, and care.

Read moreReally sad. We have been going to Halibut House in this location for literally years but have not been there for more than a year. Last night we went and had Halibut and Chips. The fish was good. A little small which is fine if the taste is good which it was. The chips however were terrible. The chips are a big part of "fish and chips". They were dry, way to crispy and not much potato inside. We each ate only a handful. When asked if everything was ok we said the fish was good but the chips were not good at all, in fact terrible. The waitress who was friendly enough apologized, however when the bill came there was no compensation for us not eating our fries. Now, my husband and I take responsibility for not demanding a refund on the chips, which again were 95% remaining on each of our plates and again, we did tell her they were awful. However we did not express a refund wish on the fries. We honestly thought a place of business would take the necessary steps to make the customers happy especially since our bill was in excess of $52. We would have been happy with a free diet coke! But now, us ever going back is in serious doubt. If you do go be ready with a little speech about the chips so you don't get charged for a massively sub...
