A very unnecessary, and rather unfortunate situation happened here today. My Father, Grandmother, and myself, went to Wimpy's today to celebrate Father's Day. I am a server and have worked in restaurants for over 10 years. I do understand what it's like, and how hectic it can feel when it's busy. It can be a very demanding and stressful job at times, it puts your short term memory to the test everyday and doing it all with a smile on your face can definitely be a challenge. With all that being said, the service I experienced today was undoubtably abysmal. When I arrived, I stood there with my family for over 10 minutes without being greeted by a single person, while there were five tables unoccupied but covered in dirty dishes. This truly should never happen. I honestly can’t fathom why or how tables would have received their bill without the server having first removed the dirty plates from the table. While we were waiting, without being greeted, the line began to grow, with at least five other tables needing to be sat. My father noticed one of the Servers standing around doing absolutely nothing. This is the second time we had observed the same server doing absolutely nothing. He asked if we could be seated, and an elder lady snapped at him. I then interjected, and explained how there really is no justification for this lack of performance. We were then finally seated. About 15 minutes into our seating , after placing our order and receiving our drinks, the elder lady was finally cleaning off a table, she made eye contact with me, and asked, in a very disrespectful tone, “how was that, did I clear that table off fast enough for you”? I was absolutely dumbstruck. I’ve never experienced such insecurity and projection from a person In a customer service oriented environment. Quite frankly, it was rather an embarrassment from the businesses point of view. I then asked another employee for the name of the elder woman I was told her name is Elaine, and that she was, in fact, the manager. About five minutes after I received Elaine‘s name, she came right up to the table, delivering an art form of damage recovery, and said “so, am I getting A five star review?” As my jaw was dropped in shock, my father responded asking if she thought she deserved a five star review. She then proceeded to say that she was “just joking” about her comment earlier. It got to the point where I genuinely had to ask her to let us eat our food in peace. I’m truly not one that likes to complain, especially in a restaurant setting, primarily, due to the fact that it is my line of work, and I understand all of the situations that can arise that may cause service to slightly underperform, however, today’s situation was entirely avoidable. Not to mention, my family and I should have never been spoken to with such disrespect. I would also like to mention that, my breakfast was full of egg shells, something I normally would not care about, especially seeing as it’s not a health risk in anyway, but that, on top of everything that occurred in this establishment today, would lead me to advise heavily against anybody ever stepping foot in this building. If today was any representation of how they treat their customers, you will be Neglected, bullied and made to feel small and insignificant. This restaurant could easily be mistaken for a Karen’s diner by the way I was spoken to from the staff. Seriously, just don’t go here. Find another breakfast establishment that honours and respect their customers, and understands the concept and the value of a capitalistic society.
Edit: Your response is truly incredible. It beautifully displays your grasp on integrity, and what kind of values you hold as a human, and as a business owner. Great job there. I’d also like to note that it really isn’t a matter of the difference between those who choose leave immediately and those that linger, as you’ve stated in your response. A well oriented, and Professional server should always have their hands full, especially on a predictably busy day,...
Read moreUPDATE Hello again, this is in response to the owner's reply as seen below. First of all, thank you for caring enough to respond. To answer your question, my visit was at 11:30 am on Saturday January 19th 2019. I sat at the table next to the dessert display cooler. I just now (8:40 am January 21) gave you (owner Bruce) a call at the number you provided. The woman who answered the phone said that you weren't in and that she had no idea when you might be, and that you normally just "pop in and out". I get it - you are busy! Anyway, my suggestion is not to scold your server but to possibly improve management and staff training. Again my original experience was not a disaster, just my honest feedback!
ORIGINAL POSTING: This is for the Dunlop St location. I had the corned beef hash with eggs. Comes with toast and home fries which are offered deep fried or grilled. I asked the young female server what she would recommend if I wanted them crispy. She said that she likes them deep fried. She was very enthusiastic and smiled a lot. However, my home fries were quite soggy. She was bopping around the restaurant and didn't ask me how everything was so I just ate them, as I was hungry and in a hurry. The food was all acceptable but nothing to deserve a higher rating. Upon finishing, I asked for my bill, and the same server said she would get right to it. I watched as she took bills to 3 other customers who asked after me. She told me she "didn't forget about me" that she was " just busy". She gave me the bill at the cash as I stood waiting. I tipped 15% approximately and she seemed disappointed. So all in all, if you are in the area and in need of breakfast, you won't go away hungry or really ticked off - just not "wowed" by any portion of the experience. At least that's how it worked out for me. Two weeks prior, I was at the Wimpey's location on Yonge St Barrie, with a colleague. That was a much...
Read moreWe just ordered wimpys breakfast through skip the dishes. I ordered my boyfriend a sandwich with no tomatoes and specifically entered in the "special prep" that he had a life threating allergy to tomatoes and they could not be added to his meal. And it came LOADED with tomatoes. This almost seemed intentional as they were busy and seemed irritated when I called back to let them know. I also didn't receive my side of home fries, and the lid was half off of my eggs Benedict meal. Biting into cold eggs was terrible and I couldn't microwave my meal as I like my eggs runny and heating it would only cause the yolk to harden. Yes we used a delivery service, however we use them regularly for the same distance from our home and NEVER have we experienced such a horrible quality of food. I can understand if our meals were made correctly and just slightly colder than if we had dined in, however it was horrible altogether. My biggest issue is that my boyfriends allergy is life threatening and they somehow "missed" seeing that there could not be tomatoes on his meal. The lady I spoke with on the phone seemed compassionate but slightly irritated. I won't be dining or using take out at wimpys ever again. And I feel it necessary to inform the public that they missed something so major. If it were a small child that had an allergy this could have been alot worse. I have a receipt from skip the dishes ensuring I included the message and I also double checked my order online several times. I'm curious as to why the woman on the phone told me I had to contact skip and not them for order errors.. I would assume wimpys was preparing my food and not the...
