I have been patiently waiting since March for this restaurant to open as I have been following their Instagram page. Let me tell you, the wait was so worth it! I was warmly greeted by Solansh the owner. We had a wonderful conversation and after hearing her story about where her husband worked before deciding to open up their Toronto location, I knew this was a couple that is passionate about their food. Now on to my review!! Food heaven! Food coma! Today, I devoured the most mouthwatering chicken roti that left me in awe. I asked for medium pepper sauce...next time Im going full on hot pepper! The roti was so BIG and each bite was a flavor explosion that left me craving more and more! Next up was the doubles. My only regret was only buying 2 because i could easily have eaten 5 in one go! While it was a bit messy, who cares....food was meant to be eaten with your hands! Very nice flavour and it had a wonderful kick! My wife had the chickpeas and potato roti. Her review...Trim and proper like a person with years of experience in table manners, forget it! Not after the first bite of one the softest dhalpuri ever, with a deliciously flavored consistency filling of curried chana and potatoes, Debe's Roti and Doubles in Barrie has been pinned to one our top go-to restaurants now! I couldn't be quick enough to savor the next bite using both my hands! Chef's kiss! Outstanding!! If you're a fan of Trini cuisine, do yourself a favor and track down these doubles and roti ,your taste buds will do the happy dance! Debe's Roti and Doubles....welcome to Barrie! Thank you for the great service and delicious food!...

Doubles: the Bara was extremely paper flat and unrisen. Not fluffy and soft as it should be. Expired or no baking powder? The filling was very runny. Seemed more like split pea versus traditional chickpea. I ordered the spiciest level of pepper they had. It was good enough to enjoy without hurting anybody..
Roti: the boneless chicken and potato were very tender. The dhalpourie had an interesting mild sweetness that I've never tasted before in a roti. Otherwise, the curry was relatively bland.
There is great potential in this place. They could be very good. The elements are there but it needs some work. Maybe just some bad luck in my part? I saw some pics that looked much closer to the real thing.
Seems like decent people and with loyal clientele. I'll be...
Read moreI am a Trini and was soo excited to see a Roti & Doubles restaurant open in Barrie. I have ordered food twice, once late in evening on a weekday, and second, mid-day on a Sunday. I ordered a goat roti and dhal rice and goat, and I also ordered dhal rice and shrimp with bhaji and curry chicken dhal and rice. In both scenarios the dhal was the consistency of tomato paste (extremely thick) the goat had a flaky stringy dry texture from being frozen which is fine but not normal. The portions of chicken and shrimp were small in my opinion. Also ordered the spinach (bhaji) which did not have much flavor. Also, please do not add salad to the same container with hot food. Hot tomatoes and lettuce for me personally is not yummy. I hope that they did not tone down the food because of location as this is not authentic Trini food...
