I have had the pleasure of spending a fair amount of time at the Sou in the city. Is it perfect, of course not. Name somewhere that is. I find the food at the Sou to be very good and above par. Have not had a meal there that I can say that I did not like. However the steak side of things is certainly not worth the money or let’s say quality for the price you pay. Not the best cut and more like a thin fast fry. Not possible to get the cooking grade of preference unless you like well done. It’s tasty just not a food quality. Chowder, burger, starters and pretty much everything else I have tried is spot on. Consistency sometimes may be an issue. So 4/5 is what I think is fair. Specials are certainly well done as well. I don’t do the brunch as I feel it’s overpriced and can get breakfast other places much less expensive. My preferred server is by far Aly!!!! Absolutely flawless and is consistently that way. She should be used as a trainer in her attention to your entrance into the restaurant and always there when you’re about to look for her. Her detail to your experience at the restaurant is flawless. And not just my table but with her whole section. We are all looked after with the same professionalism. There has never been an issue that she could not correct or make suggestions to help us enjoy our dining experience. Now all the servers there are well mannered at their jobs, no complaints what so ever. Aly just has that extra refined ability to see in advance what is required to make things flow. Never without any thing that may be required to enjoy my meal. By far the best server with the best service I have received from this establishment. I actually look for her when I come through the doors. She is real and a natural. If something goes south she fixes it without hesitation. There have however been some staff changes recently that I have to question and at times have walked out so as not to have to deal with it. Bartender to be exact. Have no problem with any of the servers that have served me. Aly is the rock for my experiences there and if I had an establishment I would certainly search her out and offer her a position as a trainer/manager. Nothing goes unnoticed...
Read moreThe restaurant itself is very nicely decorated and has live music often. The vibe was great. Very warm and welcoming. Our server was quite attentive and helpful in placing our orders. We had a cocktail and a beer, both which were lovely.
The food was a miss. But not a big one. Starter we got was scallops. They were delicious, but the portion size was the smallest portion of scallops I've ever received.
I had the steak dinner and my wife had the lobster roll. The steak was kind of unusual as I had no idea what cut I was going to get, it was not listed anywhere. The steak was nicely seared and had a good flavor, however, it was incredibly thin and because of how thin it was, it was very overcooked. I ordered mid rare and got medium well to well done. The mashed that came on the side was nice.
The lobster roll was served in a hamburger bun. So, it's not a roll (it's called a lobster roll as it's traditionally served in a roll). But the flavor was good. It was a smaller serving, though. It came with a side of fries which was ok.
So I think if the steak dinner is going to be so lackluster, it might be worth just not doing steak at this restaurant and focus on the other dishes.
Overall we had a good time, though. Nice experience. If the food was a bit more akin to a nova scotia portion size, we'd...
Read moreMy experience at Sou'Wester in the City Restaurant was beyond disappointing—it was humiliating and deeply stressful. My fiancée and I arrived at the restaurant around 9:45 PM, only to be told the kitchen was closed. While that was inconvenient, what happened next was inexcusable.
After leaving, we went to a nearby McDonald's to grab something to eat. As we were parked in the lot eating, a police car pulled up with its lights on. To our shock, the officers informed us that they had been called by Sou'Wester because someone claimed I looked intoxicated and had trouble walking.
For the record, I do not drink. I have a rare muscular myopathy that affects my mobility, and instead of asking me directly or showing even a shred of human decency, the restaurant chose to report me to the police, assuming the worst. This baseless accusation not only embarrassed me but caused unnecessary stress for my fiancée and me.
If Sou'Wester had any compassion or professionalism, they could have handled this matter discreetly and respectfully. Instead, their actions reflected ignorance and prejudice, making us feel judged and unwelcome. I would strongly urge anyone considering this place to think twice—no one should have to endure...
