In my view, there are just three standout options for Japanese hybrid AYCE in the Halifax area: Mizu, Jukai, and Sushi Jet—each with its unique appeal. Sushi Jet, in particular, stands out for its inclusion of Siumai and intriguing ice cream flavors in their AYCE selection. I can't definitively say their food surpasses or falls short of the others, but they consistently meet my AYCE expectations.
The Siumai is decent, a delightful treat if you're in the mood for basic dim sum alongside the standard Japanese fare. Their custard buns and red bean buns are piping hot and delicious—just be cautious not to burn yourself!
Regarding the sashimi, I ordered a substantial amount of salmon and mackerel, but as the night progressed, the cuts became thicker and less precise. Not a deal-breaker, but something to note to avoid excess. Skip the Tamago; it tends to be dry and lacks the enjoyment of the fish dishes.
For the hot items, the Chicken Yakitori, Shrimp Tempura, and squid dishes (Calamari and Takoyaki) were enjoyable. Opt for chicken over pork when ordering katsu, as the Tonkatsu can be hit or miss on the juiciness scale. I recommend being cautious with the beef and chicken variety dishes; my orders were often mixed up, resulting in double portions of either chicken or beef when ordering Mongolian Beef AND Chicken or General Tso, etc.
For dessert, I adore two of their ice cream flavors: Raisin Rum and Blueberry Cheesecake. The brown sugar bubble tea (+$2 per order) was surprisingly good at an affordable price—just the right level of sweetness!
Lastly, the service was excellent! They promptly cleared finished plates. The only improvement I can suggest is better timing for certain dish arrivals. It was occasionally challenging to gauge when to reorder, given the staggered arrival of items, and we wanted to avoid over-ordering.
Overall, Sushi Jet is on par with Mizu and Jukai, with each having its strengths (like the standout Siumai here). It meets AYCE expectations, and the main reason to choose it over others is the Siumai. I'd...
Read moreWe order from sushi jet regularly to take out, simple order as a sushi mix and etc, never had a complaint, went to couple different locations around halifax and never had an issue. We went to sushi jet in Bedford today, and we’re seated within few minutes, however we waited nearly 40 minutes for our order to come with us being the only table in the restaurant beside a table that was just talking. Which was surprising , we ordered a mojito, a bubble tea, along with miso soup, calamari, chicken pad Thai and beef udon. To begin, the drinks were stale, no flavour whatsoever, the alcohol get like hand sanitizer and the bubble tea had more of a smoothie taste and the pearls were old, shattered and fell apart in your mouth like you bit into snow. They were not chewy or round at all. The miso soup tasted , had no taste, like water. The calamari was very rough and hard to bite like it was overcooked. The pad Thai was frozen in the middle, lifted up the majority of the dish with the utensils when trying to pull out a noodle, and it was not creamy or flavourfull. There was sauce at the bottom but very watery, and the rest was dry. Did not taste like any pad Thai I have tasted before. The beef udon, very tasteless and the meat was very oily. High feeling it was frozen and just put into microwave. Okay specially with the pad Thai. Probably the worst dinner I had so far and very disappointing...
Read moreWe've been going to Sushi Jet (on Larry Uteck) now for about six months, and we've never come away disappointed. My husband wasn't a big fan of the idea of sushi, but I finally convinced him, and he went with me, and now it's easily one of his favorite places to eat.
I'll start with the staff, because a good staff is the heart of every good restaurant. Every single individual we've met at Sushi Jet has been absolutely amazing. They're attentive, kind, knowledgeable with their menu, and give great recommendations if you're not sure what to try. They remembered us by the third time we'd visited, and knew what we liked to start with, and which menu to bring without even asking.
Now, onto the food! We've had a pretty decent spread from various parts of their menu and we've always been impressed by the quality of the food and the flavors. From the wonton soup, to the sushi (sweet and savory!), to the udon, tempuras, and thai menu there's nothing that ever came out less than satisfying. I would seriously recommend trying something different each time you visit, because we've found a lot of new things we love.
If you're on Larry Uteck, I definitely suggest dropping in.
I also recommend their take out, it doesn't impact how good the food is and I've never had to wait around, it's always ready and fresh.
I'll upload some more pictures as we go, but behold my beautiful classic bubble tea...
