Iâve been on the hunt for a good Thai restaurant for a while now and decided to give this place a try after seeing some decent reviews online. Walking in, the first impression was honestly disappointing. The decor felt very run-down and outdated, with scuffed walls, worn furniture, and an overall tired vibe that made the place feel neglected. Still, I believe that sometimes great food comes from places that donât focus much on appearances, so I decided to stay optimistic and order.
Unfortunately, the food didnât deliver either. I started with the satay, which came out rubbery and flavourless. The peanut sauce it was paired with was watery and bland â it didnât have any of the richness or depth you expect from a proper Thai peanut sauce. Hoping the main course would redeem the experience, I moved on to the Pad Thai, and thatâs where things really went downhill. It had an overpowering metallic taste, almost like it had been cooked in an old, rusty pan. Instead of the signature balance of sweet, salty, and sour that real Pad Thai is known for, all I got was a strange, unpleasant aftertaste.
The Tom Yum soup wasnât any better. Instead of a fragrant, spicy broth bursting with fresh herbs and citrus, it was an oily mess with a few pieces of chicken floating around. It genuinely tasted like someone just rushed it out of the kitchen without any care. Authenticity was completely missing. Even basic elements like fresh bean sprouts, chives, fish sauce, or proper seasoning were nowhere to be found.
What made matters worse was the overall hygiene. I found hair in my food â and while that's gross enough on its own, it was honestly the least of my worries after tasting everything. About thirty minutes after leaving, I started feeling nauseous and ended up vomiting. I hadnât eaten anything else that day, so it wasnât hard to figure out what caused it. Even hours later, I still didnât feel quite right.
I really wanted to like this place, but thereâs just no way I could recommend it to anyone. Between the poor quality of the food, the concerning hygiene issues, and the depressing atmosphere, itâs safe to say this was my first and last visit. It's definitely not the hidden gem the reviews made it sound like â unless you consider "hidden" in the sense that the good parts are invisible.
The search for great Thai food continues... unfortunately, it...
Read moreI had read some promising things about this restaurant and wanted to try it while I was in Edmonton...it did not disappoint! I started with the Tom Kha and the moneybags, and both were excellent. The Tom Kha specifically was perfectly balanced, with that coconutty smooth tartness that only a good Tom Kha has. I finished the broth to the last drop, and was glad I asked for it spicy... it wasn't overwhelming, they nailed it. For my main I had the green curry with coconut rice and again it was top-shelf: the coconut rice was plump and well-fluffed without clumping, pleasantly sweet without being cloying. The curry was smooth and rich, with the vegetables perfectly done (still semi-crisp peppers with more well-done carrots and bamboo shoots) and the beef tender and thin-sliced. The rice and the curry really worked well together.
I was starting to get full towards the end, but I really wanted to see what else they might have to top it all off, since I was having such a great meal. Only one desert was on offer tonight... a coconut ice cream deepfied with a toasted coconut shell, drizzled with a caramel syrup. It was awesome! I was glad I ordered it.
As for the service and such, my waiter was really doing his best. Very friendly and ready to help. Apparently this is a family business and they're really trying to do the best they can, and it really shows.
I'd highly recommend that you give this restaurant a shot of you're in Edmonton and at all interested in Thai cuisine. I can't wait to come back and try more of the...
Read moreI'm a strong believer in supporting local, family owned restaurants, and it's with a heavy heart that I have to share such a disappointing experience. The restaurant was completely empty and lacked any atmosphere upon our arrival. Our meal began with the papaya salad, which was overwhelmingly sweet and completely lacked salt or the requested spice. The tomatoes in the salad tasted moldy and were inedible, I tried to eat multiple but had to spit many out because of this. For my entrée, I ordered drunken noodles. The dish was initially served without any meat, which had to be sent back. When it was returned, it was bland and dry, with what seemed like no sauce at all. Despite asking for spicy food, we were not given a choice of spice level for either dish and were later brought Italian chili flakes instead of a suitable Thai alternative. The pad ka pow was also disappointing. It was made with sweet basil instead of the traditional and more appropriate hot basil, which fundamentally changed the flavor profile. The portions were noticeably small for all dishes. Beyond the food, the overall state of the restaurant was concerning; it was dark and appeared to be in disrepair. It's difficult to understand the high ratings this restaurant has received, as our experience was a completely opposite from what those reviews describe. The experience was so poor that I felt ill afterward and had to vomit upon arriving home. I hope the owners can address these significant issues, especially regarding food quality and...
